minz56 Posted September 8, 2015 #1 Share Posted September 8, 2015 I am looking to book one of the new single cabins on a TA crossing in October next year, as the price here in NZ is excellent at the moment. I am trying to decide whether the KB cabin on Deck 2 next to the Empire Casino (deck plan on left) or the KC cabin on Deck 3 where Images used to be (deck plan on right) is the better option. I know this is pure speculation at the moment as no one has actually seen either of these cabin grades. On the Cunard website is states that both of these cabin grades are 178 sq m, but I wonder if this is accurate. I also wonder whether the KC deck plan is to scale as the area in Images is quite limited and I would have expected a longer narrower cabin. I like the fact that there appears to be a chaise longue in the KB cabin, though the two windows in the KC cabin will give a lot of light. Just wondering if anyone else has been looking at these cabin grades and whether they have any thoughts.
Rare BlueRiband Posted September 8, 2015 #2 Share Posted September 8, 2015 It's a shot in the dark right now since these cabins have not yet been built and it will be months before we get any reviews on them. You might want to go with those having more light but there won't be much on an EB TA as the solo cabins are all on the port side of the ship. Personally, I wouldn't book them unless it saved me a substantial amount of money vs. solo supplement in a "regular" stateroom. Cost versus space and location is something you have to decide. domfrontqueen Posted September 8, 2015 #3 Share Posted September 8, 2015 The photo gallery on QM2 has lovely big windows at the moment. I doubt they will change those, so you should be able to sit in your window and gaze out at the sea not far below if you get one of those.

Good point regarding the EB crossing and the fact that the single cabins are on port side. However, the reality is that I would probably have to book an inside if these new cabins were not available at a good rate. So some light is better than none. The saving is reasonably substantial - over US$600 between the KC cabin and the cheapest "regular" inside cabin. Correction to my original post: the KC and KB cabins are 178 sq ft not 178 sq m!! Don't Know if you will be able to read this link https://ask.cunard.com/help/fleet/single_cabins But It shows a QE Single Cabin which used to be Part of the Casino at 162 SQ ft Edited September 9, 2015 by Pennbank
SylviaB Posted September 9, 2015 #6 Share Posted September 9, 2015 I'd go with the one with 2 windows. More light will make it seem bigger and I've also found that squarer cabins (going by the picture here) tend to feel more spacious than long ones. minz56 Posted September 10, 2015 Author #7 Share Posted September 10, 2015 Thanks for all the helpful replies. I decided to book the KC cabin with the 2 windows as I agree this gives better light. However I doubt that the real cabins once constructed will be as "square" as the cabin plan indicates - I am expecting a longer, narrower cabin. I only had to pay a 50% deposit so no big deal if things change over the next year.

On The deck plans of QE and QV there is one smaller outside narrower cabin and one inside.

Hopefully the new single cabins on QM2 will be as appealing :)
Moscowlad Posted September 13, 2015 #10 Share Posted September 13, 2015 Does anyone know when these go on sale for QM2 2016 Transatlantic crossings so I can compare prices?
bluemarble Posted September 13, 2015 #11 Share Posted September 13, 2015 Does anyone know when these go on sale for QM2 2016 Transatlantic crossings so I can compare prices? The single oceanview staterooms are available for booking now on both the UK and U.S. Cunard web sites. You won't see fares listed for them when you choose "View Staterooms and Fares" and then "Oceanview" from the voyage summary page before starting the booking process. However, once you select "Book Cruise" and specify 1 passenger, you should see the new "KB" and "KC" single categories of oceanview staterooms listed for QM2 voyages in 2016. Now having said that, since your location is listed as "Moscow", I can't speak for which Cunard web site you may be using. And if you are not using Cunard's web site, that may make a difference. I checked several popular cruise booking web sites in the U.S. and they do not seem to know about the single oceanview staterooms yet, at least not for online bookings. Regards, John. redhydra Posted September 13, 2015 #12 Share Posted September 13, 2015 i know in my case, there wasn't much of a difference in price (about 100 dollar) difference between a regular and a solo cabin so i decided to try the solo because the cabin configuration seemed more interesting and better strategic placement combare to the other one which was slightly less expensive, il know for sure in two week what the room are like on QE which must be more or less similar to those on QM2
minz56 Posted September 13, 2015 Author #13 Share Posted September 13, 2015 The KC and KB cabins were also available on the Cunard Australia/NZ website and I had to do exactly as Bluemarble has said to see them and get the price. In my case for the 11 Oct 2016 crossing there was quite a big difference between these cabins and booking a regular cabin with a 75% surcharge. However looking at other cruises there was very little difference, so it does seem to vary. As yet none of the online TA's I use are geared up to price the KC and KB cabins, but this should come. Now we just have to wait to see what the actual cabins are like ... and the rest of the refit :)
