hamishcat Posted September 14, 2015 #1 Share Posted September 14, 2015 Can anyone tell me if the Almafi coast and the Campania coast are the same thing. Looking at trips from Salerno to Sorrento and particularly want to go along the Almafi coast but the trip that suits us best says it is going along the Campania coast. lisiamc Posted September 15, 2015 #2 Share Posted September 15, 2015 Campania is the region of Italy that Amalfi, Sorrento and Salerno are in. Sorrento is at the end of a peninsula, and Amalfi is on the southern side of that peninsula. So the Amalfi coast is a smaller part of the Campania coast, if that helps. If you go from Salerno to Sorrento, you will also go through Amalfi.
texancruzer Posted September 15, 2015 #3 Share Posted September 15, 2015 (edited) This might help. I find google/yahoo etc. to be an amazing thing !!!!! :D http://search.yahoo.com/search?ei=utf-8&fr=aaplw&p=map+of+amalfi+coast I think the area of Campania is much larger than just the Amalfi coast. The Amalfi coast is really just the coast along the Gulf of Amalfi …… to the east of the Sorrento on the map. euro cruiser Posted September 15, 2015 #4 Share Posted September 15, 2015 It seems odd that a marketer would say "Campania coast" to describe the Amalfi Coast. Everyone knows the latter and is attracted to it, so why would you use the former unless you are signaling some other part of the coast.
MeHeartCruising Posted September 17, 2015 #5 Share Posted September 17, 2015 (edited) I also agree that it is odd to hear it described in this manner. It's probably more common to hear it expresses as the Amalfi Coast in the Campania region. Edited September 17, 2015 by MeHeartCruising
