CruizinMama1026 Posted September 16, 2015 #1 Share Posted September 16, 2015 (edited) Really disappointing: I have grown to really enjoy lobster night. As per John Heald: "Yes it is true but only on certain cruises. We've had to discontinue serving lobster on cruises of 5 days or less due to the significant increase in the cost of lobster. Discontinuing lobster on short cruises will allow us to continue offering our cruises at great value. So, effective with sailings of 5 days or less departing 19th September 2015, we are adjusting our main dining room dinner menu that is offered on Elegant Night. We will be providing new cuisine options as follows: Appetizer: Broiled Sea Scallops with Truffled Risotto and Citrus Gremolata appetizer Entrees: Blue Crab Ravioli in a Light Lobster Cream with Vodka Oven Baked Japanese Sea Bass with Nicoise Sauce and Aromatic Basmati Rice Grilled Jumbo Shrimp with Special Marinara Sauce and Mustard Potatoes Roasted Duck with Orange Glaze and Au Gratin Potatoes Other guest favorites including Tender Roasted Prime Rib, Barbecued St. Louis Spare Ribs and Zucchini and Eggplant Parmigiana will continue to be offered as well. This does not affect voyages of 6 days or longer, lobster will continue to be offered once each cruise on the Elegant Night menu. Thanks and let me know if you have further questions cheers" Edited September 16, 2015 by CruizinMama1026
Jesziegler Posted September 16, 2015 #2 Share Posted September 16, 2015 That's disappointing. I was looking forward to my lobster dinner. I'm on a 5 day to the Bahamas next September. I wonder if we can pay extra up charge.
RaiderFaninNM Posted September 16, 2015 #3 Share Posted September 16, 2015 Wow I would rather have this menu instead of the lobster....;) I think WAY too much is made of lobster night......
Florings Posted September 16, 2015 #4 Share Posted September 16, 2015 The lobster is only fair anyway, but some of these other choices sound scrumptious! I'll bet you can pay the $20 upcharge and get a lobster if you want one.
WindyFreedom Posted September 16, 2015 #5 Share Posted September 16, 2015 They had lobster on my last cruise (early this Sept). I'm sorry future 5 day cruisers will be missing out but honestly I didn't think it tasted all that great. :( But I do feel bad for those who were looking fwd to it. riffatsea Posted September 16, 2015 #6 Share Posted September 16, 2015 I used to look forward to lobster night until I ate lobster in Maine! I don't think I'll ever eat an overcooked /defrosted ship lobster again! With that said, I understand those folks who may miss it. I suppose you guys will just have to start booking longer cruises. Just one more day(6 instead of 5) will get your lobster back.
cruzeluver Posted September 16, 2015 #7 Share Posted September 16, 2015 Some of those new choices actually sound quite good! The blue crab ravioli sounds particularly enticing.
sanmarcosman Posted September 16, 2015 #8 Share Posted September 16, 2015 I'll need an extra helping of those mustard potatoes  with the farmed shrimp from Southeast Asia. We love to cruise but we avoid eating seafood on all ships because we don't trust the food source.
Rare LMaxwell Posted September 16, 2015 #9 Share Posted September 16, 2015 The menu looks good, but my wife will be disappointed at the removal of lobster.
JawjaFatBoy Posted September 16, 2015 #10 Share Posted September 16, 2015 DW will not be happy about that! She likes to take a 3 or 4 day "girls cruise" every now and then and she loves lobster night. I usually go with the prime rib so no big thing for me. And I like the sound of some of the new dishes, especially the roast duck.
KatieCharlotte Posted September 16, 2015 #11 Share Posted September 16, 2015 JH says that lobster will still be available for the "nominal" price of $20 per person on ships w/o the steakhouse. I'm booked on an eight-day, but will greatly miss lobster on my short cruises with friends. On the bright side, the ravioli does sound good.
marshhawk Posted September 16, 2015 #12 Share Posted September 16, 2015 well, lobster was one of the remaining crustacean types of food I could still eat-developing allergies to seafood as I get older, so I am sad, it was low calorie, it was on my diabetic diet, and it wasn't that bad for frozen lobster- but since I always thought that the BBQ ribs were good, guess I will go over to the "messy side"-some one please tell me why they have the messiest meal on the formal nights? Fitzget Posted September 16, 2015 #13 Share Posted September 16, 2015 Wow I would rather have this menu instead of the lobster....;) I think WAY too much is made of lobster night...... Totally agree with you. Their lobster is of the spiny lobster variety, and is not very good anyway. I'd rather have prime rib than what they call lobster. happywife0921 Posted September 16, 2015 #15 Share Posted September 16, 2015 I'm cruising next week and was looking forward to it. Oh well, can always do the $20 up charge.
Rare geoherb Posted September 16, 2015 #16 Share Posted September 16, 2015 Celebrity stopped serving whole lobster tails on short cruises several years ago. They had a lobster risotto instead. It was our last Celebrity cruise, but that's not the reason we haven't sailed that line since. I don't know if they've reinstated whole lobster tails or not. RaiderFaninNM Posted September 16, 2015 #17 Share Posted September 16, 2015 Well I have yet to decide on if I cruise on the availability of lobsters on the menu much less if it makes it a poor quality cruise, relax as you are on a cruise.....
dvond Posted September 16, 2015 #18 Share Posted September 16, 2015 Its my highlight meal of my Carnival cruises, love to eat 4 or 5 of them, thankfully we normally do not take cruises less than 5 nights but this a big cutback
RecoveryDude Posted September 16, 2015 #19 Share Posted September 16, 2015 wow, just got off a 4 day carnival on Monday. SO HAPPY I got the lobster! I had 3 lobsters and the prime rib on formal night. Very disappointed they are taking away the lobster. I agree that it's been a staple of cruising for years. Luckily, my next cruise is 8 days so I will still get the lobster next cruise. But VERY sad to see this go. I might pay $20 for "unlimited" lobster ... but to pay $20 for just one of those tiny lobsters seems very overpriced.

People here say it's not the same lobster when you pay the upcharge. It's not a whole lobster but a larger portion is what I have read.
abisha Posted September 16, 2015 #21 Share Posted September 16, 2015 totally not worth the $20 imo. Won't miss it.
Viesczy Posted September 16, 2015 #22 Share Posted September 16, 2015 All cruise lines could drop lobster in its entirety and it wouldn't be a loss. If you were standing next to a stinking dumpster and a foot long bug climbed out of said stinking dumpster, would your first thought be YUM? Then why do you think that for lobsters/shrimp/crabs? USNUZULOOSE Posted September 16, 2015 #24 Share Posted September 16, 2015 I have never had the lobster, so for me it is not a disappointment for me. But sorry for the rest of you. But I do love sea sacllops.
crusinpsychRN Posted September 16, 2015 #25 Share Posted September 16, 2015 Prime rib at my Publix (grocery) is more expensive than lobster.
