Jay Sam Posted September 16, 2015 #1 Share Posted September 16, 2015 Looking at possibly taking Sunshine from PC to San Juan on 28th of Nov. Will drive in and stay at a hotel near the port. Am trying to find out how convenient are any of the rental car drop off locations in the area, then getting either back to the hotel or to the port itself. Thanks in advance and happy sailing to all. We had a group on the Sunshine 8/8 sailing that had 4 rental cars at 3 different companies. We returned to Alamo which was by far the worst rental car experience we have ever had. Small spot totally overwhelmed with the people dropping off and picking up. There are two really near Comfort Inn and Suites, Residence Inn and the Radisson,
welldone60 Posted September 17, 2015 #3 Share Posted September 17, 2015 (edited) We have always rented a car when cruising from PC. We use Budget. Has always been very easy and have never had to wait more then 15 min for a shuttle to the port and about 20 mins back from the port. Do not know if they will shuttle to hotels as we always do drop off the morning we sail. It's only about a mile to the port from the Budget office. When you look for rental car locations, use Cape Canaveral, not Cocoa Beach. Edited September 17, 2015 by welldone60
klepton Posted September 18, 2015 #4 Share Posted September 18, 2015 We've used Budget as well. We were staying at the Radisson just down the street, so I was able to drop the car off and walk back to the hotel, then take the hotel shuttle to the port. That location does also offer a shuttle to the port if you drop off the morning of your cruise.

PR Cruisers Posted September 19, 2015 #7 Share Posted September 19, 2015 We also dropped off the rental at the Cape Canaveral Budget location. Pretty easy and convenient with the shuttle to the port. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
queenschick9b Posted September 19, 2015 #8 Share Posted September 19, 2015 Used Avis last year based on recommendations here. I liked that when you dropped the car they put the time you arrived on the form and then the shuttles took you in order. It was very crowded so that was great and made things very orderly. DanJ Posted September 20, 2015 #9 Share Posted September 20, 2015 We dropped off a rental at Budget in Cape Canaveral a couple years ago. Same story as the Alamo one above. There were 3 ships in port and at 1030am, Budget was packed with people dropping off and picking up. I think you will find that's the case with all the rental offices there on busy ship days as they are all just small operations. Dropping off the night before is probably a good idea if you don't plan to use the car again, but also check ahead with them for hours or if they have after-hours drop off. mrpayroll Posted September 20, 2015 #10 Share Posted September 20, 2015 We have rented from different agencies and they are all small and crowded. Plan on it being a while for dropping off and quite a while for picking up a car after the cruise.
Capt_BJ Posted September 20, 2015 #11 Share Posted September 20, 2015 Cape Canaveral is a small town ... small offices. A while back there were 5 ships in the same day .... wanna guess what those rental places looked like THAT morning?

Sounds right, I can tell you that the Alamo office was overwhelmed, the only comment I would make on that is if they what hope happens one day a week, they should staff accordingly. I sent a letter in to corporate and they said it would be addressed.
