23words Posted September 21, 2015 #2 Share Posted September 21, 2015 i absolutely LOVE their smoked salmon tartare ... it's cucumber, avocado and of course salmon ... had it as an appetizer every time i went to the mdr for dinner. i also liked basically every dish with prawns that i got ... especially the linguine with a creamy sauce + prawns + mushrooms (i don't like mushrooms, but they were really easy to get rid of and the dish was amazing) the only thing i wouldn't recommend that i got would be the fish+chips ... they have it at the mdr for lunch sometimes ... and at blue lagoon/o'sheehan's all the time. never liked it whenever/wherever i got it. garnet115 Posted September 21, 2015 #3 Share Posted September 21, 2015 I must agree with 23words - I LOVE the smoked salmon tartare. It is delicious and my absolute favorite thing in the MDR. There aren't a lot of entrees that I absolutely loved, but one that I have enjoyed on more than one cruise is a gnocchi with short rib ragu. Favorite nightly dessert is the chocolate volcano, but if you eat in the MDR on the chocoholics night, the nutella pot du creme is outstanding. Barb Nahoumi Posted September 21, 2015 #4 Share Posted September 21, 2015 On the Dawn last June, I enjoyed the rosemary chicken and the roast turkey dinner. The chicken was on the always available menu, and the turkey was a feature item one night. For dessert, I ordered ice cream.
maywell Posted September 21, 2015 #5 Share Posted September 21, 2015 Ditto on the smoked salmon tartare - that is good. So is the ceviche, beef sliders and garden sslad. For entrees, its the veggie lasagna rolls, fried chicken, pot roast, steak dishes, and gnocchi were pretty big portion and tasty. Not a big dessert person but the creme brulee and sorbet was good when I had them. Sent from my SGH-T399 using Tapatalk
buzzygirl1 Posted September 21, 2015 #6 Share Posted September 21, 2015 We LOVE the French Onion soup, we experienced it on the Gem last year, and on the Breakaway this year, is delicious. The Salmon gets another " vote" for favorite also.
sparkinator Posted September 21, 2015 #7 Share Posted September 21, 2015 The ceviche appetizer was great. I commented to the waiter on the Dawn how great it was, and he brought me back 3 more.

Tinyturtle22 Posted September 21, 2015 #9 Share Posted September 21, 2015 Lol, I also eat the salmon tartare every time. Love the shrimp burger, watermelon salad and spring rolls at lunch.
Rare wilmingtech Posted September 21, 2015 #10 Share Posted September 21, 2015 the only thing i wouldn't recommend that i got would be the fish+chips ... they have it at the mdr for lunch sometimes ... and at blue lagoon/o'sheehan's all the time. never liked it whenever/wherever i got it. Oh so sad! We had the Fish n Chips on the Star and it was awesome both in the MDR and O'Sheehans (liked it so much I got it twice). I really enjoyed it. My wife loved the shrimp burger. And we both loved the lunch salads (Ceasar?) in the MDR. -Sean

drvalo Posted September 21, 2015 #13 Share Posted September 21, 2015 My wife loved the shrimp burger. -Sean I also liked that shrimp burger but I was a bit concerned as to what kind of glue they used to stick that shrimp together.
Tinyturtle22 Posted September 22, 2015 #14 Share Posted September 22, 2015 I also liked that shrimp burger but I was a bit concerned as to what kind of glue they used to stick that shrimp together. All they do is arrange them tightly in a ring mold with seasoning on the grill. I make them at home now.The shrimp have to be dried off really well and spray the griddle with non stick spray. When they cook they will stick together. ColinIllinois Posted September 22, 2015 #18 Share Posted September 22, 2015 I wish I had something I could rave about and give it high recommendations but I can't think of anything. Plenty of things that I thought were "pretty good" but really nothing to get crazy about. On the other hand I've never had anything that I really hated either. drvalo Posted September 22, 2015 #20 Share Posted September 22, 2015 What is a shrimp burger? It's like a hamburger but made of shrimp. They served it for lunch in the MDR the day we boarded the Epic last December. It tasted pretty good!

theloo Posted September 22, 2015 #23 Share Posted September 22, 2015 I don't think they served the shrimp burger any time during my 10-day Alaska cruise :( Will look for it on my next one though! My favorite entree was the garlicky scallops that they served in an escargot dish. We wiped up all the butter with the bread :)
kayjaypea42 Posted September 22, 2015 #24 Share Posted September 22, 2015 The only two foods I can really remember from my cruise in 2012 was the Salmon Tartare and the Pistachio blondies, which were served at the Cay but I never saw again on the ship. They were so good. Both items were. I hope they have them again when I cruise on the Escape!
