Qcruise Posted September 24, 2015 #1 Share Posted September 24, 2015 Review is coming but just figured I'd put out some highlights or lowlights. We got FTTF and thought it was a good value, on right after the suite/priority folks, cabin ready and luggage there imediately. We were eating lunch at noon. The food quite good in dining room, buffet is as expected. The ship has problems, no pool first two days, Catalina stopped tendering early due to wind so nasty drunken crowd shouting "we want a pool" with drunken men jumping into the net with no water forced them to fill the pool around 4pm. The "serenity" area in back heard grinding metal power equipment noises every day, rediculous...it was not serene by any stretch. If the vessel has that many maintenance issus then dry dock it for two weeks and fix it all. Our cabin was ready when we boarded, but there was a big blower in the room as if the carpet had to be cleaned...no smells though. Service was quite good overall, friendly faces and attitudes. Ask any questions......

mykeb14 Posted September 24, 2015 #3 Share Posted September 24, 2015 If it had Catalina it would be a 4 day.
sanmarcosman Posted September 25, 2015 #4 Share Posted September 25, 2015 That grinding was going on eleven months ago! We were told they are fitting a permanent back up generator below that deck and are drilling through multiple decks to be able to run the power lines out from the generator room. If it's taking this long it does sound like it should have been handled in a dry dock. Sorry the noise was "grinding" on you as it was us

sanmarcosman Posted September 25, 2015 #6 Share Posted September 25, 2015 Lol! short cruises are party cruises! Not always. We sailed Imagination twice and Inspiration three times in 2014, all were 4-day cruises and all were chill and sedate all over the ships.
SadieN Posted September 25, 2015 #7 Share Posted September 25, 2015 Lol! short cruises are party cruises! We've sailed 20+ short cruises out of Los Angeles. Can think of only two (10%) that were wild--four day on Carnival the first weekend in February and last November on Princess. Even on the wild cruises we've always been able to find quiet areas on the ship.

MMPERRY2006 Posted September 25, 2015 #9 Share Posted September 25, 2015 How do you ensure everyone is on boat is tendering stops early?
SadieN Posted September 25, 2015 #10 Share Posted September 25, 2015 How do you ensure everyone is on boat is tendering stops early? They start blowing the ship's horn. They usually know beforehand and let pax know of the possibility and to listen when onshore. Times like this it's best to stay near the dock (easy to do in Avalon) or take a ship tour. The Channel is notorious for being dangerous to sail. Carnival is now using two old Catalina ferries. They hold 270 or 399 pax. They're probably more stable than the previously used 40 pax Avalon taxis.

Qcruise Posted September 26, 2015 Author #14 Share Posted September 26, 2015 So in our case last Monday, only about three tenders were able to get off the ship....we had no idea they were attempting to call us back, and continued our day, having a nice lunch with margaritas. It was around 1230pm when we went to terminal to go back. When we got to the ship the pool crowd had been stuck on ship drinking all day. The pool had been empty and netted from the time everyone boarded on Sunday. The situation was ripe for a mutany....I was enjoying a cigar in the smoking area when the crowd started chanting "we want a pool".....loudly. Apparently two drunken guys jumped into the nets with no water....security and officers came on deck. Shortly after then they began filling the pool. No fault of Carnival that they had to stop tendering for safety reasons. If we had not had early plans on the island we'd have been stuck too. We happen to be on the Inspiration boarding New Years Day for our twin sons 21st birthday celebration.....I'm scared.
Cruiser 4 Life 66 Posted September 26, 2015 #15 Share Posted September 26, 2015 WE would not go on this ship if it was free, it's an old clunker ready for the junk yard. Agreed. Serenity definitely did not sound too serene, and two days without a pool on a 4-day cruise? What a joke.
Newcruiser+2 Posted October 5, 2015 #16 Share Posted October 5, 2015 This will be mine and my daughters (16,11) first cruise. Both ships have water works that makes it fun for them. What can you experienced cruisers tell me about these 2 ships? Cant make up my mind.
