I don't know how you got 40 minutes to an hour. It starts at 8 and dinner is at 8.45. By the time we got in it was 8.15, then to get a drink it was a bit longer, so hardly worth bothering. I have been to better ones, but give it a miss now.

On the assumption that mostly retired folk go on these very long cruises, although I do work and we do up to 24 days, then it would stand to reason that lots of them are seasoned cruisers. However, if P&O couldn't fill these long ones, they would simply have more shorter cruises. Lots of people like to go away in the winter.

I have never heard the Captain give out this information, but that maybe because we have stopped going to the Captains parties, preferring to have a drink in Andersons at 7.30, rather than join the hordes in one of the lounges queuing up for a free drink.

If you don't go you won't know, but it's each to their own.

We are just back from Ventura today (review pending), we turned up at the loyalty club party a little late, enjoyed drinks and canapes for 45 minutes and even a nice chat with Captain Terry who spotted that my wife had her arm in a sling following a fall.

Didn't see any hordes or queues, just a lot of people enjoying themselves.
