Is it true that you can use an expired Passport?

I saw on the Carnival web-site that an passport that expired since 1999 can be used for documents. From everything I have seen on the birth certificate thread, the Carnival web-site can post incorrect information.

Has anyone used an expired passport before?

This is just my take, but...

 

You can probably use an expired passport to get ON THE SHIP.

 

That doesn't mean it's acceptable immigration paperwork when you come back to the country and through customs.

 

We just went through this with a passport... the federal agency doesn't consider our certifiied copy of birth certificate acceptable identification. But it'll get him on the ship.

 

So, I'd just make sure you have a birth certificate or something with you just in case.

Yes, Carnival accepts expired passports for identification as long as they are not expired more than 10 years. Now, that might change once passports are required in 2007.

I am not sure if this is still true, but your passport can be expired up to 6 months and be used by customs provided a passport is NOT REQUIRED for the country you are visiting.

During this time when Birth certificates are acceptable forms of travel documentation of citizenship, so it an expired passport (less than 10 years expired). Once passports are required for travel, then it must be a valid passport
