Photo Review: Oasis of the Seas to Nassau- Oct 21, 2015

Recommended Posts

Being a transplant from the North, I love the line about Byron snow blowing listening to Caribbean music! I'll be on Oasis tomorrow so I hope to catch the rest of your review before then.

I have some homework to do (I take online college classes) but I try my best. Either way, I hope you have a great trip.:)

We spent the afternoon deciding where we wanted to go for dinner. A friend of ours recommended Casablanca on Fort Lauderdale Beach but it looked fancy and I was worried that Maddy would go into "toddler mode." Bryon talked to the concierge and he recommended Rocco's Tacos which was about two miles away. The concierge told us that it was kid friendly as long as we went early. Sometimes they have bands that come in.

We decided to use Uber to get there and went around 6 pm.

The ambiance was fun.

We had a minimal wait and we were given a buzzer. Maybe about 10-15 minutes. We waited outside until our buzzer went off. One thing I was very excited was that they had Mexican Coca Cola. I love Mexican Coca Cola so of course I had to order one...in addition to my margarita.

They had guacamole that was made at the table. I love guacamole (and so does Maddy) so I had to order some. Yummy.

I was debating betweem the Mexican Chocolate Pie and the Cafe Adhogado. I asked the waitress for her opinion and she said the pie so I went with it and I am so glad I did. It was amazing. I want some now.

As we were leaving, it was starting to get busier and a band was setting up. The great thing was that the place was loud but you could still hear your dining companions. But no one could hear a fussy toddler so that is a win-win. (Win for those of is with toddlers and a win for those who don't want to hear my fussy and tired toddler. :) )

So Bryon and I had plans to sit on the balcony of our hotel and enjoy the ocean breeze. Bryon wanted to get some local or quasi-local beer so we stopped at the local 7-11 before calling Uber. Bryon did not find anything. So we called for an Uber and asked the Uber driver to take us somewhere on the way back. Well he took us all over Fort Lauderdale before taking us to a Wal-greens. Needless to say, we saw three places that would have been on our way back from Rocco's. While a tour was nice, we would have preferred stopping at one of those three places.

I read Maddy "Good Night Florida" and she fell asleep. Bryon and I sat on the balcony where I wrote a live blog post. Then we went to bed. It was going to be a long day tomorrow!

We woke up at around 6-7ish. We decided to get up and have breakfast at the resort since it was included in our visit. We decided to eat outside despite the wind.

The food selection was amazing. I didn't get a picture of the omelet station unfortunately.

The food was delicious. After breakfast we went to run some errands. We went to a nearby Target to get diapers(regular and swim diapers) and I needed to dressy sandals as well as some other odds and ends. I also wanted to get a pacifier clip because I knew Maddy would be dropping her pacifier. We also needed some formal shoes for Maddy but Target didn't have any. Luckily the Target was in a mall so I was able to get some at Carters.

Bryon check the Publix liquor store for some wine but didn't care for the selection but we found a nearby wine and liquor store and got two bottles of wine. We made our way back to the hotel for checkout.

We went back to our hotel room and packed everything up. You would think that wouldn't have taken long due to the fact we were only there one night but with Maddy messes, it took awhile.

This was her earlier that morning.

After we were packed up, we checked out. Here are some photos leaving the Hilton.

Our porter Hernan was very pleasant. We had a lovely talk about football. The Hilton also gave us some waters for the road.

I didn't realize that it was a Philly sports bar. But you got to love it when you find your teams sports bar when away. I feel that way about the Lazy Gecko in Key West.

They used to have A LOT more Philly stuff in there a few years ago so you really knew it was one. Definitely have scaled back on some of the stuff unfortunately :( haha.

And yay Rocco's Taco's! That place is the best YUM

Yeah, I loved Rocco's. I hear that there is one in Orlando so we may go there again when we take our Feb cruise out of Port Canaveral.

Sorry I have been MIA this week. It has been a very busy week between work and my classes (I am an online student.) I actually had an embarkation post all typed up and ready to submit and Maddy came along, slammed her hands on my keyboard and poof-it was gone. I got a little discouraged. I am back and I hope some of you are still interested.

I left off with leaving the Hilton. We arrived at the port around noon. We didn't want to get there too early since this was our first cruise. Being at the bottom of the Crown and Anchor totem pole, we didn't want to be waiting in the terminal for a long time before boarding.

There she is!

The plan was that Bryon was going to drop Maddy and me off with our luggage and then he was going to return the rental car and take the shuttle back. So we did that. Maddy and I waited outside thinking it was going to take 10-15 minutes. At around noon, it was busy but probably not as busy as it was at 10:30-11.

It ended up taking Bryon a lot longer than expected. The shuttle kept getting delayed. So finally he called an Uber to bring him. Finally, our vacation can start!

We breezed through security and check in.

Our first order of business was going to the nursery and getting Maddy signed up for baby-sitting. Don't get me wrong, I love my daughter but Mommy and Daddy wanted date night while on the cruise.

We went up to Royal Babies and Tots. Usually the nursery is not open the first night on longer cruises but since this was a three night cruise, they were open all three nights. Though the first night, they didn't open until 8.

If I remember correctly, the rate was $6/hour until 6 pm and $8/hour after that.

While Bryon was filling out the paperwork, I snapped a few pics at Adventure Ocean.

After we went to the nursery, we decided to get some lunch. We had decided to go to Sabor. Since we were only on for three nights, we decided that we wanted to eat at restaurants not on the Freedom (which is where we will be in Feb.) We also knew we wanted to eat in the main dining room on formal night. Since Sabor is on the Freedom, it was not a priority for dinner but since we love Mexican food, we decided to go for lunch. The menu is same for lunch and dinner.

Sabor is located on Deck 6 on the Boardwalk which is on the AFT.

First things first, margaritas, chips, salsa and some whole milk for Maddy.

I thought I got a picture of menu but apparently I hadn't. You can order a la carte or you can order the tasting menu for $20. I ordered the tasting menu and Bryon ordered chicken stuffed jalapenos and a quesadilla. I will tell you, everything is delicious but the tasting menu will leave you stuffed. Stuffed I tell you!

My favorite, tableside guacamole. I had ordered it mild because I knew I would be sharing it with Maddy but we could have probably ordered it medium.

I wish I remember our waiters name. He was awesome. Well anyway, he was telling us that the reason Oasis was on a three night trip was because Aflac paid $10 million to have a four night cruise. He said that the workers had a great time.

Chicken-Stuffed Jalapenos. These were amazing!

After lunch we decided to check to see if our room was ready since it was nearby. Now, when we booked, we booked balcony guarantee, which is not what we typically do. Bryon is a planner and likes to choose our stateroom. However, we decided since it was a three night cruise that we could do the balcony guarantee. We were open to having a Central Park balcony but we got an ocean balcony which we were happy with. We were in a balcony by the AFT elevators. Our stateroom was 6268. We didn't hear any noise from the elevators and found the location to be convenient. We were right by the Boardwalk and you could take the stairs down a level and be in the Royal Promenade. Very convenient.

We had requested a pack n play during our reservation and it was there waiting for us. The pack-n-play took up most of the free room.

Some picks from the room and our balcony while docked in Fort Lauderdale.

We went to the pool bar looking for our roll call party (we did not have a Meet and Mingle organized) but we did not find anyone. I saw a table that had pineapple drinks. I believe my exact words were "I don't know what's in it, but I totally want one."

We had made our way to the Globe and Atlas pub and stayed there for awhile.

After we left the Globe and Atlas, we walked around the Royal Promenade. We knew that the Muster Drill would be happening soon so we didn't go far. Our muster station was right in front of Sorrentino's. Most people were inside Sorrentino's. I am claustrophobic so we stayed in the front. At one point we were talking with another family and one of the safety officers comes over and scolds just me. No one else. I admit, I was mad about that. I get that we had to be spoken too but I was not the only one talking. Bryon laughed and thought that was hysterical because I tend to be a rule follower. Oh well.

Finally muster was over and we went back to our room for sail away.
