05mak05 Posted November 7, 2015 #1 Share Posted November 7, 2015 We've been on two Carnival cruises and both were on the older, smaller ships. We like to cruise with friends out of Galveston in the spring but I'm not familiar with any of the ships. Rather than do a bunch of research, I thought it would be much easier to ask for advice on this forum. We'll book midship balconies and want to avoid Jamaica. Thanks! DobberDog Posted November 7, 2015 #2 Share Posted November 7, 2015 you are going to have to do research. We have 3 ships sailing out of Galveston right now but that is changing next spring. You dont give any date range of when you want to sail so its hard to help you. Right now we have the Magic, Freedom and Triumph. Triumph is going to NOLA next spring and Liberty is coming here in its place. Breeze is also coming to Galveston next year but i think its later in the year. KPfromCT Posted November 7, 2015 #3 Share Posted November 7, 2015 Magic is going into dry dock in March and then will be sailing from Port Canaveral.:D:D Booked on her for July and cannot wait..... Going to miss the Breeze, as we've cruised on her twice and LOVE that ship. You Texans are SUPER lucky to be getting her. She's a beauty. Liberty also gets RAVE reviews. Just crumming that they are taking her out of SJU and replacing her with a crappy ship. That itinerary is AMAZING, but who wants to do it on a ship with hardly any balconies?:mad:
05mak05 Posted November 7, 2015 Author #4 Share Posted November 7, 2015 Thanks! Some time ago, I posted a question on the Carnival board and people were so helpful. Again, your information is appreciated and that clears the fog.
Uncwrn93 Posted November 7, 2015 #5 Share Posted November 7, 2015 THe Magic is going into dry dock late Feb to March but will be back in Galveston (at least per the cruises available from Galveston) until mid summer then it moves to FL. Breeze comes in April sometime when Magic moves We're cruising on Magic in January
WLHyatt Posted November 7, 2015 #6 Share Posted November 7, 2015 As far as I know there are 5 main itineraries out of Galveston: 7 day eastern: Embarkation Seaday Key West, Freeport, Nassau Seaday Seaday 7 day western: Embarkation Seaday Seaday Jamaica Grand Cayman Cozumel Seaday 7 day exotic: Embarkation Seaday Seaday Roatan Honduras Belize Cozume Seaday 4 Day: Embarkation Seaday Cozumel Seaday 5 day: Embarkation Seaday Cozumel Progresso Seaday There are a few that reverse some of the ports and of course there are the occasional journeys cruise but that's itineraries in a nutshell. If you want to avoid Montego Bay then take the 4, 5, 7 day eastern, or 7 day exotic. Note that these itineraries are duplicated in New Orleans essentially. jamesr3939 Posted November 8, 2015 #8 Share Posted November 8, 2015 We are doing the Magic for NYE so will be able to report back after. We are doing the "non" Jamaica route (KW, Bahamas). A few years ago we did the Mariner of the Seas out of Galveston and again we didn't do Jamaica. Going to Jamaica shouldn't be a big concern, just don't get off the ship and call it an extra sea day (that's what we do). In fact, our last Carnival Dream from FL we never left the ship at any of the three stops.

Depending upon when you are going, book the Magic or the Breeze (sister ships). We have sailed the Triumph and the Magic (twice). Their is no comparison. As for itinerary, we have done the Key West and Belize, and will be be doing the Jamaica this summer. Of the two we have done, I have to say I liked the Belize slightly better....but both were great. The only bad part was having two seadays to end the cruise...the last one got a little "long" with very few activities besides Bingo and Casino on the ship. Thank goodness for the Cloud 9 Spa! 05mak05 Posted November 8, 2015 Author #10 Share Posted November 8, 2015 I want to shout a big "thank you" for all who took the time to reply to my questions. As it turns out, a group of our friends are joining us. We all love the Mexican ports and have booked the Liberty of the Seas out of Galveston. We all love going to Mahahual, and I agree. Regardless of the ship, there is nothing like cruising! Again, thanks and I'll hang on to the information.
