RJPerque Posted November 21, 2015 #1 Share Posted November 21, 2015 (edited) Wondering if there is any upside or downside of the last cruise BEFORE a ship repositions to a different port. We are considering doing last cruise from San Juan before the boat repositions to voyages leaving from Galveston. Velvetwater Posted November 21, 2015 #3 Share Posted November 21, 2015 Nope... in fact some staff might be turning over or going home so they could be happier. :) Repo crusies are similar apart from the fact it seems to be more loading up on supplies thus a later departure. AKman2495 Posted November 21, 2015 #4 Share Posted November 21, 2015 No, not a problem. We have done two repos now and both were great.
SadieN Posted November 21, 2015 #5 Share Posted November 21, 2015 Nope, no difference at all in activities, etc. We did a B2B on the Conquest. Last RT from NOLA then NOLA - San Juan.
Shmoo here Posted November 22, 2015 #6 Share Posted November 22, 2015 I can't think of a reason why not. In fact, you get a nicer cruise experience, in that instead of repeating an itinerary, you'll have 2 different itineraries. We did a Med cruise B2B with a TransAtlantic repo. Loved it. OCruisers Posted November 22, 2015 #7 Share Posted November 22, 2015 We've been on the last cruise before repositioning and have noticed no difference at all. :)
Rare Hlitner Posted November 22, 2015 #8 Share Posted November 22, 2015 Cannot think on any reason to avoid such a cruise. We do like to avoid cruises that are close to a major drydock (either before or after) but repo cruises are of no concern. In fact we love to book repo cruises. Rare Keith1010 Posted November 22, 2015 #9 Share Posted November 22, 2015 No. It should not make any difference at all. Keith
WaveSplasher Posted November 22, 2015 #10 Share Posted November 22, 2015 Your good to go The only exception is a cruise that repositions to cater to the Asian Market. Those are the ones that you might want to think carefully again if you ever decide to do one
marco Posted November 22, 2015 #11 Share Posted November 22, 2015 As far as the cruise, it would make no difference. The only issue that might come into play is it were to pricey or inconvenient to return home for the port the ship arrives at.
Langley Cruisers Posted November 22, 2015 #12 Share Posted November 22, 2015 I echo the sentiments here. There is no reason to avoid this cruise. The staff have to work anyway, no matter where they are in the world, right? It's simply a "non-issue".

Lerin Posted November 23, 2015 #14 Share Posted November 23, 2015 The cruises to avoid are the ones right before or after a dry dock.
legaljen1969 Posted November 23, 2015 #15 Share Posted November 23, 2015 I think I am missing something. I don't see that the poster says they are planning to take the repo cruise. I also don't see anything about a back to back cruise. Someone had mentioned having two different itineraries. I would not consider "the cruise before a repositioning" to be "the repositioning." Like many have said, it's just another sailing for most ships. I wouldn't worry about it.
RJPerque Posted November 23, 2015 Author #16 Share Posted November 23, 2015 Thanks so much for advice. We were thinking the crew would just be tired of the itinerary and want to "just get this last one over with" before heading to a new port. Will get to booking later today!! CruiserBruce Posted November 23, 2015 #17 Share Posted November 23, 2015 The crew doesn't react that way, generally. And as to the comment that you may have crew turnover at or near a repo, the crew works fixed timelength contracts- 6 months, 9 months, 10 months, whatever. Not seasonal. There is at least some crew turnover almost every new cruise, and sometimes during cruises- because of their fixed time- in days- contracts. We had a stop in Brisbane Australia in September- two days before the end of a 17 day cruise around Australia- and 8 or 10 cruise employees were swapping out, including the Head Chef. It would have been cheaper for the cruise line to wait two days and swap people in Sydney, but a contract is a contract.
cruzincurt Posted November 23, 2015 #18 Share Posted November 23, 2015 My negative experience has been on the first cruise after a repositioning. Especially a ship coming over from a long stay in Europe. The crew seems to have a different attitude based on the previous majority passenger nationality make-up. We have done a last one before a repositioning and there wasn't any obvious negatives. Now the last few trips before drydock could be negative with everything left to go to pot since its going to be replaced soon.
