Help w/San Sebastian Traffic 1/14

OK, wondering if I should bail on the taxi and instead take the cruise transfer.

We are flying into San Juan on 1/14 (the first day of the street festival) at 3:45 and the Carnival Dream leaves at 10,

I am reading horrific stories about traffic and thinking that instead of the taxi, sign up for the cruise transfer since then I will be in the hands of Carnival and they will be responsible for getting me to the ship.

Is the traffic from the airport to the ship really that bad? Especially on day 1 of the festival?

(Yes, I know, we all like to fly in the day before but that's not feasible with work)
