skincruisers Posted December 23, 2015 #1 Share Posted December 23, 2015 We are experienced cruisers but we've bought our in laws (mid 70's) a short cruise on the QM2 in late February. They have never been on a ship before. Does anyone have any practical tips?
crystalspin Posted December 23, 2015 #2 Share Posted December 23, 2015 Hi Skin, You should go here: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/forumdisplay.php?f=54 to the Cunard 'board', as the Queens are often likened to old-time oceanliners rather than modern cruiseships. In a good way, that is -- classier, dressier, etc. Anyway go there and browse a few pages of threads, then ask questions that were not answered. Rare Hlitner Posted December 23, 2015 #4 Share Posted December 23, 2015 (edited) There is good and not so good on that Queen. The Ballroom and atrium/lobby areas are beautiful. But the designers screwed up badly when they designed the Lido (buffet area) which reminds me of a large cheap cafeteria. Cunard is apparently aware of the issue and is doing some redesign of that space....but the advance drawings we have seen are not very impressive. On Also keep in mind that when they say "formal" they really mean it! On formal (and semi-formal) nights men need to wear jacket and tie, and on formal nights most will really wear a Tux or dark suit. Rare Essiesmom Posted December 24, 2015 #5 Share Posted December 24, 2015 If they are doing a short cruise on a Cunard ship, you will have mostly Brits, and they take the opportunity to really dress. We were on a 4 day on QE and there was one formal night, but the other nights everyone continued to dress fancy also. EM
Rare Keith1010 Posted December 24, 2015 #6 Share Posted December 24, 2015 We sailed the QM2 in 2014. We really enjoyed the experience. I too would post on the Cunard Board. Keith
