jetter2 Posted December 28, 2015 #1 Share Posted December 28, 2015 You people on here whine to a degree I haven't seen. We have sailed CCL and this was our first NCL cruise - we LOVED it. We were in a oceanview cabin 5082 w/ UPB & 4 Dining. Cagneys - the filet was amazing. Hibachi - it was okay Moderno - it was okay as well, nothing raving French - VERY good Both MDRs were good as well. The shows were great, the gf loved the wine bar, and I loved the casino. Overall it was a great cruise, fun itinerary. crowds were fine and we didn't experience any service problems at the bar or otherwise. I would defiantly sail again. You can tell how NCL is a cut above CCL.

Really enjoyed our time on the ship as well. Most of the staff are wonderful and make such an effort to please. Your view of the dining pretty well matches ours as well. Thanks again. cruzincurt Posted December 28, 2015 #4 Share Posted December 28, 2015 (edited) We also just got off the STAR. We liked the ship and the crew was great except for our cabin steward. Never took the time to meet us and never got a ship pin. Never crowded, where was everyone? Loved O'Sheeans for breakfast and lunch. Food was good at all venues. Loved the UBP. Never had slow bar service or food service. Casino staff were very friendly; the slots not. Craps started out at $10 but was dropped to $5. Debarking at Tampa was a breeze. We will try to squeeze another STAR cruise in before she leaves. Edited December 28, 2015 by cruzincurt

Good that you enjoyed your cruise, for pins, just pop down to guest services and ask for one, don't think they put them in the cabins anymore. No problem getting them at GS though. We have sailed the Star too many times to count and its always been a pleasure to sail. I also agree with your comment of CCL we sailed them once and it was not a pleasurable cruise at all. fshagan Posted December 28, 2015 #9 Share Posted December 28, 2015 We have sailed CCL and this was our first NCL cruise - we LOVED it. Thanks for your review! It's always interesting for me to see the opinions of people who have cruised other lines and then have their first NCL cruise. We enjoyed our Star cruises. It is a similar size, but a different layout, than the "Jewel Class" ships that we like just a bit more. That's not slamming the Star by any measure - I would hop aboard her at any time for a cruise! We have found that the service level, food and entertainment seems to be consistent across NCL so we always enjoy ourselves. I'm glad you enjoyed your cruise and thanks for giving us your "first cruise" opinion!

Zbayette Posted December 28, 2015 #11 Share Posted December 28, 2015 What toiletries are included? shampoo? conditioner? lotion? body wash? hair dryers? How about a refrigerator? How is the beverage package? I know a few months ago people complained they didn't serve you; how was it recently? Thanks!
cruzincurt Posted December 28, 2015 #12 Share Posted December 28, 2015 (edited) Thanks for the review. Did you have to sign for drinks with the UBP? No, during the first day they asked for both of our room keys (UBP is printed on the card). Afterwards if we were both sitting or standing there and ordered two drinks, they only took one card and swiped it. I saw a receipt come out but never handed back to add anything. I'm assuming the bartender scanning the order gets the tip credit. Never did a bartender or waiter stand there or hesitate giving our card back with the expectation of another tip. Never did they ignore us or provide slow service with the UBP. We were quite pleased. They made out because we didn't come close to the amount of tips if we had purchased our drinks outright. BTW, drinks obtained while still in Florida waters had tax applied that appeared on our final cabin statement. There was no record of the UBP drinks anywhere. How is the beverage package? I know a few months ago people complained they didn't serve you; how was it recently? Thanks! We were in a lowly oceanview cabin, all we had was wall mounted dispensers of shampoo and body wash in the shower. No bar of soap. I guess we could have asked for one but made due. Next NCL cruise, we'll take along a bar of soap. Or perhaps the cabin steward forgot to provide one, he wasn't the sharpest we've had. There is a hair dryer at the desk area. Jeffffffs Posted December 28, 2015 #15 Share Posted December 28, 2015 We were also on the Star Christmas week and had a wonderful time. Service was great throughout. Food was good to excellent. Shows were great. Ship never seemed crowded (except poolside on sea days), even though a full ship during holiday sailing. Ports were great (loved cave tubing in Belize, Maya Key in Roatan. and Nachi Cokum in Coz. Blue Kay in Costa Maya was good, but could have been better). It's hard to believe that the recent negative reviews were of the same ship. We loved the Star and would definitely return.
Loucat Posted December 28, 2015 #16 Share Posted December 28, 2015 We were also on the Star in a mini suite. We always bring our own soap. They had the same wall mounted soap dispensers and there was a hair dryer so there is not a difference between other staterooms. Great cruise! The Officers were visible and all crew friendly. I plan to post a review on the Review Board. Loved Ginza! Best noodle bowls anywhere.

I even asked for a itemized bill of all that we had drank and they told me "No Way". I kinda was just curious how much we had boozed, but I guess they didn't want to waste the printer ink to print me out a scroll :)
