78232 Posted January 26, 2016 #1 Share Posted January 26, 2016 It is very likely that my cruise has been chartered. Will we be notified by HAL directly or will they contact my TA? Does HAL usually offer something to compensate for the inconvenience of changing to a different sailing date? Marcia
Boytjie Posted January 26, 2016 #2 Share Posted January 26, 2016 People have had different experiences how they officially found out that their cruise was officially cancelled. Theoretically you should hear from your TA since they are the go-between with you. What were your cruise dates? They will try to accommodate you to switch to another cruise and it may include some kind of incentive.
RuthC Posted January 26, 2016 #3 Share Posted January 26, 2016 If you booked through a TA, HAL should notify you via that TA, as the TA is your agent. When I've had cruises chartered out from under me, HAL has always offered a financial incentive if I booked one of several cruises offered. The times I found a different, similar length cruise, they allowed the incentive to be applied to that one.
cruz chic Posted January 26, 2016 #4 Share Posted January 26, 2016 Had this happen a couple years back. I got zero compensation. That said, it was probably about a year before the cruise took place so I didn't have much planned.
Boytjie Posted January 26, 2016 #5 Share Posted January 26, 2016 OK, I found your other thread and know which one you are talking about. :)
Krazy Kruizers Posted January 26, 2016 #6 Share Posted January 26, 2016 This has happened to us several times on HAL. We always got the call from our TA. Depending how far out from the actual cruise date we were notified by our TA, depended on whether or not we got any compensation. Most times we were notified a year in advance and got nothing. Usually there were only about 4 choices of cruises similar to the one that we had where we were offered shipboard credit. Sometimes we could change dates and some times we couldn't. As for your insurance, HAL should refund that as well since HAL chartered out your cruise. Your TA better fight for that. We never buy insurance until 1 day before final payment is due.
