glenn29 Posted January 27, 2016 #1 Share Posted January 27, 2016 I did try and search this out, but couldn't find it, and ran our of search terms to try. Before I even ask the question, it's more out of curiosity, I'm totally fine either way, just wondering. What constitutes a "day" as far as gratuities are concerned? Does embarkation day count? (I would assume yes), how about debarkation day? (that's the one I'm really not sure about. I'm going the paradise for 5 nights, 3 of us, just wondering if it will cost $180 or $216. thanks for any help.
DM_KidAtHeart Posted January 27, 2016 #2 Share Posted January 27, 2016 Based on my own cruises, I think it would be 5 days for that calculation.

BIGA961 Posted January 27, 2016 #4 Share Posted January 27, 2016 Back when it was $10 per day, a Saturday to Saturday cruise was $70 pp. I'd say it's per night.
glenn29 Posted January 27, 2016 Author #5 Share Posted January 27, 2016 Well this is all good news, gives me some extra Pina Colada money, or maybe just extra gratuities for those that are kind to my daughter :) Thanks for the quick replies everyone. I'm not positive in this, but once the casino and lounges close down on the last night of the cruise, I think the S&S accounts are closed too. When you wake up on the morning of Debarkation, your S&S card will be just a room key at that point.

Three of us are going on a 5 night cruise and have prepaid our gratuities. They charged us $180.

Rare LMaxwell Posted January 27, 2016 #10 Share Posted January 27, 2016 Cruises are always by nights. Count the nights. When they say something like 7 nights, 8 days, that is just marketing babble for "you are leaving the morning of the 8th day, it is not vacation". You are charged the service charge for each night that you are on the ship.

Hubby always uses his card to purchase us each a specialty coffee to drink while waiting for debark. BUT we have sailed different ships than you. It might vary from ship to ship or perhaps the times of cut off.
summersigh Posted January 27, 2016 #14 Share Posted January 27, 2016 We sailed the Sunshine - 8 night trip - this month. On our bill the grats were based on the number of nights.
JLee1973 Posted January 27, 2016 #15 Share Posted January 27, 2016 Like everyone has said count the nights. So for a five night cruise it would be $60 pp per stateroom. So for the three of you it would be $180. This link will break down gratuities and in the future show you what they will be for the length of cruise. https://help.carnival.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/1123/~/service-gratuities-%28tips%
hockeyguru32 Posted January 27, 2016 #16 Share Posted January 27, 2016 Based on our 8 day cruise our gratuities are $192 for 2 people which is $12 per day per person. So to me a 5 day would cost $60 per person
