Newbcruiser1 Posted February 11, 2016 #827 Share Posted February 11, 2016 It may just be because of when they are coming in. There's a lot of traffic in NY Harbor. Hmm maybe! Although I've sailed in and out of cape Liberty several times and never saw a tug in use. I can't see outside now although it seemed to take a good 45 minutes of bow thruster action on and off so far - still feeling the vibrating now. kjclosson Posted February 11, 2016 #828 Share Posted February 11, 2016 Too bad the news vans will swarm all these people who are lined up to get off the ship. Go on Twitter and you will see the pictures of lines of people up and down decks 4 and 5. These people have had enough of an ordeal without a camera and microphone in their face asking for a play by play. The news will get their hot takes and make it even more dramatic than necessary. Powersboyee2 Posted February 11, 2016 #830 Share Posted February 11, 2016 Not wanting to speculate too much here but we're starting to hear that there maybe more serious damage than we can see. Nothing affecting the overall safety of the ship but perhaps enough to warrant more extensive repairs. Heard from where? Known not true.

paulgs Posted February 11, 2016 #836 Share Posted February 11, 2016 Shaun, I know you are stressed with this whole situation but you really need to look at the big picture. http://www.intellicast.com/National/Radar/Current.aspx They are doing their best to keep you guys safe. The big picture is, if they would have looked at the weather reports prior to leaving, they would not have gone. The captain said he did look at the weather and the storm was very tight, then blew up all of a sudden. According to a spokesman from the national weather, the captain was correct. However, he went on to say that their forecast was that it would blow up. Personally, I think the captain is not as much to fault as is RCCI. My guess, and it is just a guess, is that the captain did not want to take the ship out and was told that the ship was to sail. I do not think that the main office would let a captain make the final decision about taking a ship into a storm.
robtulipe Posted February 11, 2016 #837 Share Posted February 11, 2016 (edited) Why did it look like all the cabin lights were off/dark? Were my eyes playing tricks on me?! I see lots of cabins lit up on this screen shot from the NY harbor webcam site as Anthem was just pass the Verrazano Narrows bridge. Powersboyee2 Posted February 11, 2016 #838 Share Posted February 11, 2016 And, you are an expert in what part of maritime law? My DH (retired US Navy Captain) said, the USCG will inspect the ship and RCI will check out everything, but there really is nothing to investigate. I fully expect to see all these "armchair experts" to fade away or act like they didn't make statements that don't pan out. Like!! lol

miopyk Posted February 11, 2016 #841 Share Posted February 11, 2016 Well we're back and I'm quite surprised how relieved we are. 4 news helicopters overhead and the first passengers are off. We're staying on overnight and will be off in the morning for a few days in New York before flying home. I hope those going on the ship next will have a better time than we had. So that's it from me until next time. Cheers

KarinaGW Posted February 11, 2016 #843 Share Posted February 11, 2016 You're staying the night, correct? You'll have to do a live thread for your rebooked cruise on Anthem :) I am staying the night. Sitting in Schooner now enjoying a drink. I will rebook Anthem, but I will never again set myself up for the target in my forehead.
emmy Posted February 11, 2016 #844 Share Posted February 11, 2016 The New York Harbor Webcam operator is in Ft. Lauderdale & doing a FANTASTIC job. Very much appreciated indeed. So good to see them home safely, & oh my, what a party they're having. Free EVERYTHING, basically in NYC, to celebrate their safe return! Karina (on board) said no one is in their cabins which explains why it's so dark. Welcome home Anthem and yes PTZtv in this case the NYHarbor webcam team did a very nice job this evening

He doesn't even have the final say in these types of decisions. Also, I don't really blame Royal. It was a mistake, or miscalculation, which happen. I believe that they honestly thought that they could easily pass around or through the edge of the storm. I don't see the need for everyone to be pointing so many fingers. They in no way expected any of this to happen, obviously.
tracks221 Posted February 11, 2016 #847 Share Posted February 11, 2016 Just back from the dock. Ship got here around 9:40pm Lots of news crews and helicopters. the Coast Guard boat escorted them into port. People were out on their balconies cheering and waving their phones/flashlights. Couldn't see much damage in the dark. Did notice many of the balcony separators were broken on the front right side of the ship. I heard that the giraffe near the rock wall had a hole in it. Saw about 5 big trucks waiting with supplies. Happy everyone made it back to shore!

At the time I posted, this thread was a single thread, posted by Shaun, who was wondering why they were headed to Bayonne and not Port Canaveral. Shaun was a little spooked and we were all trying to calm him down. Now this thread is a mess of 8 million combined threads that are merging multiple conversations and some of the early posts don't really jive with what is being talked about now. Sorry about the posters (and trolls) who feel they have to try to prove those onboard wrong and go after what they think is a big bad company. You gave a lot of good information and what you posted was very appreciated by most of us. Some people are just miserable all the time and can't stand that everyone else isn't also.
