JJean Posted February 18, 2016 Author #4 Share Posted February 18, 2016 I've tried a lot of sites looking in the mid-range, but there are so many different areas in Santiago it is hard to tell what is the best for walking and sightseeing. We will only spend 1 or 2 nights there or we could just spend 1 night there and then book a day sightseeing tour to Valparaiso, where we will spend 2 nights. I'm also looking for a central sight there where we can explore the town. Any ideas are appreciated.

We stayed overnight at Hotel PanAmericano, located at Centro, Santiago before returning to USA. It is midrange and right in the center of the city. If you enjoy walking. sightseeing and have fun getting lost, this is it. Do check out their website.

We are looking forward to staying there. Good decision! After a free breakfast at the hotel, go to the Cathedral (close to the hotel) show up in front before 10am for a FREE 4-hours walking tour of Santiago. Look for someone with red shirt labeled FREE TOUR. You might like to spend another day because there are so much to see.
JJean Posted February 20, 2016 Author #10 Share Posted February 20, 2016 The walking tours sounds good, we have done it in many cities and they are usually great and informative. Just did one in Sydney. Thanks!
maryann ns Posted March 27, 2016 #11 Share Posted March 27, 2016 We stayed in Bellas Artes (airbnb) and were minutes from the metro, the Bellas Artes Museum (where tours4tips meet) and the wonderful Lastarria restaurant and bar area. Perfect location. We found Santiago to be a great city and were glad we spent time there.
davwen81 Posted March 27, 2016 #12 Share Posted March 27, 2016 We are in Santiago at the moment staying in the Providencia area next to Manuel Montt metro in an Airbnb apartment, We love this area, but after being here a few days I'd go with the above and stay in the Belles Artes area, as the Lastarria area and restaurants are great. Probably quieter than Providencia especially if you're on very noisy Providencia or Nueva Providencia where traffic goes all day and night! The Tours4tips leave from Belles Artes Museum as already said and their offbeat tour is great.
