cruising nole fan Posted February 14, 2016 #1 Share Posted February 14, 2016 Well, just off the Valor yesterday for annual super bowl cruise. Don't get me wrong, we had a good time, but she (the Valor) is ready for serious upgrades. The carpet is worn, lots of rust is visible throughout. Running track, basketball area and sports decks in general are rough. This is our 6th time on the Valor and until I hear some better reports, we won't be booking another voyage on her. Every night outside our oceanview room on deck 1 the wave noise was horrible (loud repetitive thumping). We typically get this category room in this area of the ship but have never heard such load noise from outside before, especially considering the relative tameness of the seas we had. The steakhouse dinner was superb as usual, stateroom service was also very good. I usually brag big time on the spectactular extravaganza that Carnival puts on for the super bowl, but the Valor did not do it justice at all this year. The casino didn't offer any betting opportunities for the game, not even the board to buy squares on for the score of the game. The food was blah, no party favors just really uneventful. I will say that the wife won bingo the last day, and I cleaned up at the "let it ride" table to cover the cost of the entire cruise and then sum, so all turned up fine. But the Valor is surely ready for a major makeover. Get to work Carnival.

KPfromCT Posted February 14, 2016 #3 Share Posted February 14, 2016 This is SO disappointing to hear.:( We were looking at cruising on her at the end of June for an 8 night Eastern. I know she is going into drydock, and I know she's getting the 2.0 upgrades. But crappy carpet and rust are a no go. I don't want to see that. Not when we're looking at spending $3300. Is carpet something that can/will be replaced during dry dock?
ScottJames Posted February 14, 2016 #4 Share Posted February 14, 2016 I hope they do something on the Sunshine for next years Super Bowl. I booked it just for that reason!

I don't see why not, our last cruise on the Victory we had a very nasty neighbor who threw a fit about the floor in their cabin and that her luggage got wet, well it was raining in Miami on embark. I think she as looking for an upgrade but they moved her down the hall and next morning we were woke up to banging and hammering. They had completely removed everything from the cabin and replaced the carpet to fix an indented floor. Saltz Posted February 15, 2016 #7 Share Posted February 15, 2016 I'm another one excited about the upgrades! I was bummed about no burgers from Guy's but read it will be part of the 2.0 upgrade. Yay!

cruiser fanatic Posted February 15, 2016 #9 Share Posted February 15, 2016 We did a B2B on the Valor in April and while we enjoyed our cruise we noticed the same things that you did. The carpet was very worn and there was some rust showing. That being said, we would not hesitate to sail the Valor again. The carpet will likely be replaced in dry-dock and she will get a fresh coat of paint.

cruiser fanatic Posted February 15, 2016 #12 Share Posted February 15, 2016 When they do the 2.0 upgrade are they going to kept the fish & chips ? Most likely yes, they did not do away with the fish and chips on the other ships that got 2.0 upgrades. zephyrhillscruisers Posted February 15, 2016 #13 Share Posted February 15, 2016 When did Carnival, or ANY cruiseline's casino, ever take betting action for a sporting event???? They don't and to my knowledge have never had Vegas style sportbooks on board. In addition to all the legalities, I believe a proper sportsbook would need live feeds of all the games, and given the intineraries of cruising, thats not possible. JawjaFatBoy Posted February 15, 2016 #16 Share Posted February 15, 2016 We were on the Valor last September and while we did notice that she was showing age in a few areas, we still had a great time and wouldn't hesitate to book her again. That said, after sailing on the Liberty in 2013, we did miss the 2.0 upgrades but not enough to spoil our cruise.
jordanaire Posted February 15, 2016 #17 Share Posted February 15, 2016 From what I've read, the Valor will be in drydock April 23-May 8 for the 2.0 upgrades. We sail on her May 21st!
HamSammie Posted February 15, 2016 #18 Share Posted February 15, 2016 I was on the Valor last year and do not recall seeing any of this. Sure, she is an older ship compared to Magic, Dream, Vista, but I do not recall seeing any torn carpet or rusting. I guess I do not pay enough attention to details. Then again, to some people, if the ship does not have a Guy's Burgers and flat screen televisions in the cabins, it is a floating rust bucket. Micahs Grandad Posted February 15, 2016 #19 Share Posted February 15, 2016 We were on the same cruise and thought the ship was in reasonable shape. They gave us a nice lounge to watch the game with food and drink nearby and had a good time. Cassie the new CD did a great job.
