goldgirl2 Posted February 16, 2016 #1 Share Posted February 16, 2016 I'm driving myself crazy checking the weather reports all day long. It seems like the Caribbean and Lauderdale have been a bit rainy and cooler then usual this year. I keep checking next weekend forecasts and of course it is ever changing. I live in Michigan I need sun!
Clarea Posted February 16, 2016 #2 Share Posted February 16, 2016 Sure, check all the time. However, I'm mostly concerned with weather that would affect air travel for our flight to the cruise. Not very concerned about weather once we are the cruise.
Nado44 Posted February 16, 2016 #3 Share Posted February 16, 2016 (edited) I check it all the time. Usually affects excursion related decisions, i.e. to book/cancel Nachi Cocom in Cozumel or other excursions. runawaysoul Posted February 16, 2016 #4 Share Posted February 16, 2016 I don't check. By then it's too late to cancel anyway. Besides, ocean weather has a mind of its own!
nelblu Posted February 16, 2016 #5 Share Posted February 16, 2016 Sure, check all the time. However, I'm mostly concerned with weather that would affect air travel for our flight to the cruise. Not very concerned about weather once we are the cruise. Same here, check only to see if I need to make alternate arrangements
setsail Posted February 16, 2016 #6 Share Posted February 16, 2016 No, but my wife checks it for the ports and also adds the locations to her phone
cb at sea Posted February 16, 2016 #7 Share Posted February 16, 2016 the actual Caribbean will be just fine...it will be quite warm, and if there are showers, it's still hot, and they don't last long! Now, The Bahamas can be a different story, since they are NOT in the Caribbean!
emdia43 Posted February 16, 2016 #8 Share Posted February 16, 2016 Always check. To me the pre-cruise planning is almost the best part of the cruise vacation.
Rare island lady Posted February 16, 2016 #9 Share Posted February 16, 2016 Yup, lets me know if I need to pack more swimsuits, or rain gear! ;)
runawaysoul Posted February 16, 2016 #10 Share Posted February 16, 2016 That's the truth. Only been to the Bahamas twice - 1st time, I watched a tornado land in the ocean and reappear on land while on the top deck (It was from a distance!). 2nd time there was a single, tiny cloud and that cloud was raining, although it didn't last long and didn't cover but a few city blocks! the actual Caribbean will be just fine...it will be quite warm, and if there are showers, it's still hot, and they don't last long! Now, The Bahamas can be a different story, since they are NOT in the Caribbean!
xxHadleyxx Posted February 16, 2016 #11 Share Posted February 16, 2016 Just the once, a day or so before we leave, so I willl know if I need to pack a few extra warm clothing item,s or an extra rainjacket ore more sundresses, etc
steveru621 Posted February 16, 2016 #12 Share Posted February 16, 2016 Sure, check all the time. However, I'm mostly concerned with weather that would affect air travel for our flight to the cruise. Not very concerned about weather once we are the cruise. I'm with Bob, check for flight day. Beyond that, the forecast for 4 days out is usually wrong. Heck, the forecast in the cruise compass is usually wrong!
ken_nyc Posted February 16, 2016 #13 Share Posted February 16, 2016 I also agree with Bob, I check to see flight day even though we go at least a day before and just curious about the weather for the ports to see if it will effect any excursions, such as snorkeling. Rare Keith1010 Posted February 16, 2016 #14 Share Posted February 16, 2016 Yes we check the weather before we sail to finalize what clothes we take with us. Keith
OCruisers Posted February 16, 2016 #15 Share Posted February 16, 2016 We check our embarkation port so we'll know what sort of clothes we'll need to board the ship. ;)
Big_G Posted February 16, 2016 #16 Share Posted February 16, 2016 (edited) Add us to the list for only checking for flight purposes. We rarely do excursions anymore so when we do we use the cabin window for the forecast. During winter, we fly two days early but in spring, summer, and fall, one day early. jd10367 Posted February 16, 2016 #17 Share Posted February 16, 2016 Only if we are going someplace far away. We checked for our Baltic cruise. We had no idea what the weather is like in Russia or Finland. Caribbean or Canada nope.
OBX-Cruisers Posted February 16, 2016 #18 Share Posted February 16, 2016 I typically look at hurricane forecasts for Caribbean cruises in Fall and checked the temperature and rain forecasts for our trip from Rome last Fall. Checking weather is a good practice to avoid surprises
cruisingsince94 Posted February 16, 2016 #19 Share Posted February 16, 2016 Yes but mainly for any weather that could impact our flight to the port. Got to make sure we can get to the ship. As for getting off the ship, no rush. :D
starfish216 Posted February 16, 2016 #20 Share Posted February 16, 2016 Yup I check all the time so I can torture myself! I always say I am not going to do it anymore and the first thing I do as we get closer is keep checking the weather and announcing it to everyone we are traveling with. On our New England cruise in October rain was predicated for every port. I even went out and purchased waterproof walking shoes because so much rain was predicted. We ended up with no rain at all. On our Alaska cruise sunny skies were predicted but at the last minute it changed to rain for every port. We had no sun for five consecutive days and didn't see the horizon or the Inside Strait because the fog was so bad. So now I always pack a light waterproof jacket when we travel. Weather is so unpredictable.
Rare mcatmcat Posted February 16, 2016 #21 Share Posted February 16, 2016 Absolutely. Not really concerned about the sailing port but what is ahead as the week goes
Itsbeentoolong Posted February 16, 2016 #22 Share Posted February 16, 2016 Before our Xmas/New year cruise I had each islands weather on my phone, everyone of them were raining everyday I was gutted! But in 14 days we had 1 rainy day (Martinique) and 2 days where the sun was in and out apart from that it was gorgeous! Enjoy, I'm jealous
yuvraj Posted February 17, 2016 #23 Share Posted February 17, 2016 I'm driving myself crazy checking the weather reports all day long. It seems like the Caribbean and Lauderdale have been a bit rainy and cooler then usual this year. I keep checking next weekend forecasts and of course it is ever changing. I live in Michigan I need sun! I check before the cruise just for reassurance that I am taking the right clothes. It's just to get an idea of temperatures. The rest is unpredictable. During the cruise, I check in the morning once we have arrived at a port using an app on my phone. The cruise compass will also provide a forecast. Just helps me plan the day if I am getting off the ship.
Havingfun2010 Posted February 17, 2016 #24 Share Posted February 17, 2016 I check for important stuff, like the temperature range for the week. Unless it's the summer, than I know it will be hot, with some chance of rain.
K1200S Posted February 17, 2016 #25 Share Posted February 17, 2016 I may or may not check the forecast for the ports that we will hit. Don't really care what the weather is for the departure port.
