Coquimbo/La Serena port information?

We will be in this port on March 15, 2016, trying to figure out how to get from the port to the towns or Coquimbo or La Serena so we can explore on our own. I can't find anything in my internet searches. Princess wants $70 PP just for transportation from the ship to La Serena which seems to be only 10 miles away. Also wondering if there are people at the port offering shore excursions. Any information would be most appreciated. Thank you.
