tjmaher Posted March 3, 2016 #1 Share Posted March 3, 2016 We are traveling to Nassau in October. ONLY in port from 7-3. We would love to go to a really nice beach but paying the resort fees for only a few hours of use seems crazy. Is there a really nice beach (other than Junkanoo Beach) that would be easy access and very lovely? Would love to go to Cable Beach, but from what I am reading it is closed to public. Anybody have any suggestions I would love to hear them. Thank you
cruiseapril Posted March 3, 2016 #2 Share Posted March 3, 2016 We like to go to the Melia on Cable Beach for 4 hours. At $35 pp, it is worth it for us as they have nice pools and a good beach and all of the amenities. See the website. A more convenient place is the British Colonial Hilton, near the pier- but it is not a resort. Nice for adults. The Melia is more for families. OCruisers Posted March 3, 2016 #3 Share Posted March 3, 2016 It's not that you're really there that short of a time (8 hours) ... just 7 - 3 is not good timing for any who want a beach day. :(
gcbranscome Posted March 4, 2016 #4 Share Posted March 4, 2016 Melia looks beautiful! Thanks for the idea cruiseapril! I'm assuming you just take a taxi there. How far is it from the port? Sent from my iPad using Forums mobile app
tjmaher Posted March 4, 2016 Author #5 Share Posted March 4, 2016 So true. It is eight hours, but 7-3 make it difficult to spend money on a short beach day. However, after looking at the resort and for $35 pp, perhaps 8 to 1 is NOT. I just have never been to Nassau and I so want to see the beautiful beaches they show on TV! Thanks for taking the time with your suggestion.
cruiseapril Posted March 4, 2016 #6 Share Posted March 4, 2016 (edited) We usually take a van taxi ($5 pp) from the pier. Those vans are lined up and wait to fill. We have also taken a regular taxi- with 4 people- can't recall the price. It is about 5 miles to the Melia. Good to have a map of Nassau. There are some online. tjmaher Posted March 9, 2016 Author #7 Share Posted March 9, 2016 Who did you book your day pass for Melia with? When I googled resort for a day, Melia was NOT an option.
cruiseapril Posted March 9, 2016 #8 Share Posted March 9, 2016 (edited) We got a day pass at the front desk. Edited March 9, 2016 by cruiseapril
tjmaher Posted March 9, 2016 Author #9 Share Posted March 9, 2016 Great and thank you. I was not sure if we had to call ahead. Have you been to Freeport as well? What did you do there?
cruiseapril Posted March 9, 2016 #10 Share Posted March 9, 2016 In Freeport, we took a $5 pp van taxi to Our Lucaya which has a big Marketplace with many shops, a casino, and the Grand Lucaya resort. Cruisers can do a day pass at the resort or just stop in for lunch. They have a good website.
