Mustangsally58 Posted March 5, 2016 #1 Share Posted March 5, 2016 1. Can anyone tell me what the parking situation is for Fremantle port for a P&O short 3 night cruise? 2. On the cruise that goes out from Fremantle, does the casino open once it is in international waters? 3. Are the duty free shops open on board? Thank you in anticipation. tickford Posted March 9, 2016 #2 Share Posted March 9, 2016 I'm from Perth so don't have to long term park as such but I found this for you. http://www.fremantleports.com.au/Visiting/Cruising/Pages/Passenger-Information.aspx Casino opens once you have left port, can't remember how far or long timewise before they do open though. Shops on board not open while in port.

fencecrow Posted May 8, 2016 #5 Share Posted May 8, 2016 We just received an email from P & O that our three day cruise from Fremantle, advising that the Casino will not be open for the entire cruise.
Wastegirl Posted May 9, 2016 #6 Share Posted May 9, 2016 Just finished a B2B from Adelaide to Fremantle, then Fremantle up to Broome and back, 6 and 8 days respectively. On the Adelaide to Fremantle leg the Casino was open as the cruise started in South Australia. However once the cruise officially started in Western Australia the Casino was closed for the whole trip. We were told it is something to do with Western Australian legislation that any cruise departing and returning to Fremantle could not open the Casino, why I don't know. Heard people saying it was something to do with the Casino in Perth having a monopoly on this sort of thing. There was some grumbling about this by the locals :)
ariomD Posted May 10, 2016 #7 Share Posted May 10, 2016 Yes, we're doing the 8 night cruise from Freo later this month and received an email including the following info: 'Due to Western Australian gambling legislation, the onboard casino and bingo cannot operate on domestic cruises. Therefore the casino will be closed for the duration of your cruise.' I don't think the duty free shop operates unless the ship goes to another country. Sorry not to have been of more help, and hope you enjoy your cruise. :)
chrisb74 Posted May 10, 2016 #8 Share Posted May 10, 2016 (edited) The Casino will be closed unless the cruise docks outside WA. I've done a few of these 3 day ones and they're definitely closed. Parking kind of sucks. http://www.fremantleports.com.au/Visiting/Parking/Pages/Parking-at-Victoria-Quay.aspx Since you're from Mandurah the train might be a better option. It's a short walk from the station to the ship. Duty free - This has always been offered. I'm not really sure why but they're usually open and trying to sell off anything that's not bolted down. LibbyLee Posted May 10, 2016 #9 Share Posted May 10, 2016 I don't really get why bingo is not being offered. Don't they play bingo anywhere in WA? How strange......
Nervouslyexcited Posted May 11, 2016 #10 Share Posted May 11, 2016 We confirmed yesterday about the parking at Queensgate Parking Station. Full instructions are attached to the above link. Level 3 or 4 at $15.40/day and then short walk to Quay. My husband will drop luggage and myself off at the Quay and then walk back himself from car park. It's very strange. Even silly. You can play Bingo in lots of places in WA. But I was just quoting from the email. tbh, I'd rather go to a Trivia session than a Bingo session. :)
bl262000 Posted May 12, 2016 #12 Share Posted May 12, 2016 (edited) I don't really get why bingo is not being offered. Don't they play bingo anywhere in WA? How strange...... G'day, I think its because the bingo books on P&O need to be purchased via the casino cashier and therefore falls into the casinos accounting, so if the cashier isn't open then they cant sell the bingo tickets. You will also probably find that the onboard "horse race" will not happen for the same reason, the casino staff are the ones that sell you the betting slip in the set location, no casino $$ then no race. cya bl262000 Edited May 12, 2016 by bl262000

Have to catch train from Mandurah to Perth, the back to Fremantle or get off at Murdoch and get bus to Fremantle. The platforms for the Mandurah line and Fremantle line are quite a distance apart if you have luggage. I'd probably drive and pay to park and this from a person who is happy to do public transport.
