Cabin upgrade on an under booked cruise?

My wife and I are taking our first cruise ever on April 11th. I'm trying to do as much reading and preparing as I can before we go, it's all so confusing...lol. Anyway, I was curious whether it's possible to get a cabin upgrade just prior to sail time? Anyone ever tried this before? Thanks in advance for any responses.

It's possible the "Upsell Fairy" will call you. Sometimes they aren't offering too great of a deal though. For us our offer was moving from an OV to a GS, but we had to pay the difference between the two room rates. Wasn't really a deal, so we passed.

You're on a good site to figure things out. I'm sure that you'll have a blast. Carnival will try very hard to get the ship to be fully booked by the time it sails, so it's possible that you may get a call to see if you'd like to move up to a more expensive room category, but they rarely seem to offer the upgrades for much less than the current value.

 

If you booked Early Saver, you can keep checking the fareviewer (Google search Carnival FareViewer) to see if the price for your category has dropped, then if so, you can get the difference in on Board Credit.

Keep an eye on prices. Sometimes there are price drops as you get closer to sailing so you may be able to upgrade for a very small fee.

Those articles are written by landlubbers who are not cruisers. There will be signs at Guest Services saying that the ship is full. Many others will be in the same line asking the same question. It is as likely you would be allowed to move into a premium stateroom as it is likely the flight attendant will come get a middle seat economy flyer and move them into first class.

 

It is possible that you can contact Carnival or your travel agent and ask to pay more to upgrade your stateroom. If you booked a "good deal" guarantee stateroom, you will simply get assigned a stateroom from that category.. inside will get inside. balcony will get balcony, etc. An booked inside stateroom is not gonna to get you a suite. It just isn't. And they have been busy trying to upsell past guests for spend more on an upgraded stateroom so they aren't going to give them away or teach people pay for the cheapest stateroom and get more for free.

I just got a $200 price drop on my May 7 cruise, by choosing the Casino rate. It was applied as OBC since we were already paid in full.

Elaine, when you put it in the context of the airline scenario, I can see your point. Thanks for that feeback. I have been to some hotels, however, that would upgrade you to say, a jacuzzi room if the hotel is not busy.

Watch pricing. If price for a better cabin becames cheap enough you want to pay for it go ahead and upgrade.

 

Odds on upsell fairy giving you a deal are rather small.

 

Either way expect to pay for better cabin.

My spring break cruise seems SLIGHTLY under booked for 2 person cabins. We are 18 days out and there are 10+ suites available for 2 person parties. No luck for a family of 4 [emoji3]
