chrisc58 Posted March 21, 2016 #1 Share Posted March 21, 2016 Hi folks, I was wondering if anyone has had any previous experience with Balcony upgrades after booking? we're new to cruising and looking at doing the paradise islands and seven shores back to back cruise in november which looks great. At the moment theyre offering the free drinks package which has swung the deal for me, only issue is cabins, upgrading from an inside to an outside cabin is only about £190 for the 14 nights which I think is a good deal but from outside to balcony is nearly an extra grand  I know if you book last minute they usually have good deals but I wondered if anyone know if its possible to do a last minute upgrade for less? Pensioncruiser Posted March 21, 2016 #2 Share Posted March 21, 2016 Think you may find that they have all gone, you can check with a dummy booking, but they certainly will not be available on late availability.
stevedeccaman Posted March 21, 2016 #3 Share Posted March 21, 2016 Hi Chris, This is a difficult area (minefield), we have booked a Transatlantic on Discovery October this year 15 nts AI. We usually have inside cabin but then we thought, well we are just about near pension age but still fit and young at heart so booked a balcony on deck 6, think at the time it was £700 on top of basic cabin price for two people  Have monitored the prices since booking in January( which you should not do ) currently +/-250 £ The price has gone up then down, then up again. So it is a bit of a game really You could take a chance and wait until the last minute but then again…………. Perhaps we should all just pay the price at time of booking reserve your cabin on whichever deck and then forget it. (No one ever does this) then start planning what you will do on the ports of call. If someone in conversation says how they got a great deal at 50% off just say you paid nothing as you won the cruise (with a suite) in a competition ! :D Have a look at this thread on same subject http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showthread.php?t=2305325&highlight=best+time+to+book Enjoy whatever you decide :) Stevie Sorry just noticed Chris is talking about upgrade on existing booking so above maybe useless Just like me :o

chrisc58 Posted March 23, 2016 Author #5 Share Posted March 23, 2016 Thanks for all the responses all, I guess its one of those pay it if you fancy and dont if you dont. I was under the impression usually thomson ships had fewer balcony cabins by % of cabins than other cruise companies however the ship we will be travelling on is the Discovery so the RC splendor and that had more so I was hoping to get a cheeky discount to upgrade. Now if only I knew how long the free A/I packages would last id know how long to wait before booking!
