Good Evening,

I, in my early 30's, and husband in his early 40's are cruising Alaska this summer for my birthday on the Solstice. I would like to know what the night life is like. Dead, lounge-like, outdated or upbeat. We are not party all nighters, but would like to stay up past midnight since we're leaving our girls at home this cruise. :)

Thank you for your responses

I will let you know in June - Equinox was seriously dated - there is only so much "FabbaAbba and 70s parties" one can take - Quasar was closed during our 14 night cruise so hoping it will be open on Solstice...

I have a feeling though it the ship wont be rockin' in Alaska...;)

For us THIS cruise - its a dream trip - so I guess some wild Martini nights might have to do the trick - always a buzz vibe there for sure :)

Quasar closed? I am also sailing Solstice this summer to Alaska. My last cruise we stayed in the "disco" until the wee hours each night, so I hope that is not the case on our cruise.

In my experience on Celebrity (4 cruises), night life is not a priority, regardless of the itinerary. Dancing in the main foyer during meal times and then maybe a DJ someplace (you gotta chase it down). A fantastic space as the sky Lounge is mostly empty.

A real disappointment in my experience.

It's been 6 years since I've been on Solstice but back in 2009 and 2010, it was very lounge like. However, this past December on Eclipse, the nightlife was much more active. I don't know if that's a new direction for Celebrity or if it was just the Cruise Director (Richard Spacey).

I think the formula for nightlife activities is pretty standard among all ships - what changes it up is generally reflective of the itinerary and the demographic it attracts.

Caribbean cruises are different from Baltic cruises, Transatlantics different from New England/Canadian cruises - the people they attract are different as well.

I imagine that Alaska is more of a nature/scenery/explore type cruise - and the demographic will probably reflect that (note: I am generalizing here). That's not to say there won't be anything planned in the way of evening fun, but these events may not be that well attended. Who knows. My husband and I are also doing the Solstice to Alaska in May (I am 43, my husband 50), we are traveling with another couple (also in their 50's), and I must say, the 4 of us are pretty darn fun ;)... so we will no doubt, find some fun to share!

Regardless of the ship, sailing in Alaska is not generally a "party" atmosphere. It's a far more laid back type of cruise. Be that as it may, the casino is generally the busiest place on board at night.

The martini bar will be happening for sure but depending on the pax many of the other nightly "fun activities" may be cancelled or close early due to lack of people BUT we have seen it go both ways on Alaskan cruises, some were dead at night, others WE MADE the night time fun!:D It really only takes 6 or 8 people to start dancing and partying in Quasar or up in the Sky Lounge when the DJ is there and others will slowly come in and join but if nobody "gets it started" most will peek in, see nothing much is happening and immediately leave....

Celebrity is not known for their nightlife.

(This is their biggest negative for me - and I'm in my 60s - :p )

I find this so weird considering the emphasis on attracting the 30-40 year old crowd.

To me, having a great nightlife to attract that crowd (YOU!!) it's intuitive that you need to change your reputation and add some "life" at night.

(CELEBRITY - ARE YOU LISTENING!!!)

Anyways, that said, your activities or lack thereof will depend greatly on the cruise director. Try to book something with Sue Denning as the CD (I think she's currently on Millennium). She really keeps things hopping - constant wonderful, innovative programming!

Have cruised to Alaska with several lines. Your have 4 port calls with early port times. A couple nights you will cruise through beautiful areas during dinner. Juneau and Victoria both leave port at 10pm or later.

Will there be people partying after midnight - not many because the scenery and ports are the reaaon for this cruise. Caribbean? Yup! On the first night likely to be partying. The second night you arrive in port at 7am. People are going to do tours and 7am comes mighty early.

FWIW - this is really the same on all the lines. Alaska is not party time, lots of families and younger people but early to rise.

I have to be honest and say we are not booking any more X cruises (well for a while anyway) after Alaska.

We will go with livelier lines - ok - we know for sure Celebrity has the edge when it comes to food and service - but - from what we experienced - we just don't feel ready yet to hang up our dancing shoes.

We were drawn back to X with the talk of Miami DJ style etc - we were hoping for a Calvin Harris type music beat -

There was a great band on Equinox who played lots of current music -

But Quasar being closed was a big downer for us - They were apparently making it smaller to house a Future cruise sales office - didn't sit well with us...

We are taking NCL again this fall - their TA is much livelier and with their speciality dining and much better SPAs - they won our money

Alaska - I don't expect a nightlife - just would be nice to experience a couple of nights in Quasar - and a wee boogie before lights out ;)

We absolutely adore Celebrity - just have yet to see this modern upbeat vibe they market - ...

I was on the Solstice to Alaska last July and I am taking my dad this August. Not much nightlife on Alaska cruises. If you want nightlife I would choose another cruise.

Thank you all for your input! Alaska sounds a little slow, but there's no changing of the itinerary coming here. This is one of my dream cruises along with a different Alaska itinerary and an around the world which I'm saving for my 50th.

We'll just make the party with each other the wonderful people I know we'll meet.

And there is always the casino...
