FreestyleNovice Posted March 27, 2016 #1 Share Posted March 27, 2016 Let's unite our search skills to create a near up to date list of known charter/group cruises on NCL. So we can avoid them. ;) If we copy paste and add any new dates the list below we might be able to save someone's vacation :D The list (please copy past after the break): Ship unknown: March 11-18 2017, Lifesource group, departure Miami, could be Escape, Thanks to user Mistizoom ..a second option is emailing events@ncl.com from your business email and asking if they can host x number of pax on incentive travel on your sail date. ;)

tseitel Posted March 27, 2016 #4 Share Posted March 27, 2016 I believe it is because when large groups charter a cruise, areas onboard can be unavailable to those passengers not in the group. I have not experienced this, but many have posted that certain bars, clubs etc were closed for the charter's exclusive use. And Someone posted yesterday, I believe, that they were unable to access a large portion of Great Stirrip Cay do to a charter. So there is no predjudice involved, people just want to be able to have access to everything onboard.

I have not experienced this, but many have posted that certain bars, clubs etc were closed for the charter's exclusive use. Exactly this. Also other things to consider are for example these: - Some groups might have dietary restrictions that could mean some restaurants also being off limits for regular pax (been there, seen that) - Some groups might come from quite different subcultures and since it's "their cruise", they think that they can get away with anything behaviour wise (been there, seen that too)

tulch Posted March 27, 2016 #11 Share Posted March 27, 2016 Great idea for a thread - thank you! Large groups present all kinds of unintended problems: For example, reserving blocks of tables in any of the restaurants effectively negates the "freestyle" option for others. More often than not, group meetings run a little late.... So, if 200 people want to reserve the MDR at 6 pm but don't START showing up until 6:30, there are not enough tables available for other passengers -- starting with the time reserved until the time those 200 passengers finish their dinner. Ditto for the staff that NCL must make available to serve them. Now, transfer the needs/requests of that large group to any other venue on the ship. Those individuals have selected a group cruise so that they can be together. The actual people involved may be the nicest, sweetest people on earth -- but all of them at the same time kill the whole idea of "freestyle." Any crew member will tell you the same thing -- and when crew are stressed, it also makes a less pleasant experience for the rest of us. Hence, my appreciation for this thread.... kenzie Posted March 27, 2016 #12 Share Posted March 27, 2016 Why do you want to avoid them? Particularly the groups you have identified? Someone deaf do something mean to you in the past? On a previous cruise last year we were on a cruise with a group of 500 males- most were nice however there were some who displayed behaviour I would reserve for in my cabin with my husband! I am open minded but this was shocking exhibitionist behaviour that I would like to avoid in the future and everyone should have the choice of this. However if the poster of the above comment has no objections to such behaviour then good luck to them but do not jump to judge others!

I specifically addressed the first three cruises listed which were for deaf groups, and that sounded just mean. However, for the reasons the op has cited, as well as yours, I can understand. The original post just came across as mean-spirited, which I now understand was not the intent. Edited March 27, 2016 by numberguy
cardbucfan Posted March 27, 2016 #14 Share Posted March 27, 2016 Thanks for this. We almost took a cruise several years ago with a large American Girl Doll group-specifically grandmothers and their granddaughters and the dolls. I didn't think my two teenage boys would appreciate that demographic too much! We also found out the hard way that the first full week in June is Gay pride week at Disney World. (Not sure if it is anymore and to quote Seinfeld not that there's anything wrong with it). However a particular subset of that group was quite vocal and a bit obnoxious. That was fun to explain to 4-8 year old kids!

First, thanks to the OP for this thread. Second thanks to kenzie for your post. We have been debating whether to change our cruise date. We found out (via CC) after we booked, that a large group would be on our sailing complete with Halloween costume contests. Today we changed to another date and took advantage of the latest dash sale offers.
