Vision - Let the Elephant Races begin!

Recommended Posts

We just completed a 7 day cruise on the Vision. And with the exception of 2 issues it was a great cruise:

1 - We had two adjoining junior suites – 8046 & 8048. Great cabins and location. EXCEPT these cabins were located under two ping pong tables on deck 9 and the noise generated from the play on these tables was what I would assume elephant races would sound like. You would never think that this much banging and thumping could come from playing ping pong. The noise was incessant from 9 AM sometimes until 10 or 11 at night.

2 - Isumi – We had 6PM reservations and all was well until 7PM. Then the loud disco music coming from the Crown lounge started – it was so loud that you not talk to your tablemates without shouting to be heard.

The replies from Guest Services (three trips) were not acceptable, they ranged from:

“You booked a cabin under the Sports Deck so you should expect some noise.”

First of all the Sports deck is on deck 10. Deck 9 has the Windjammer, the Solarium and the pools etc. – nothing on the deck plan indicates that there might be any noise from above our cabins other than shuffling of chairs.

Concerning Isumi – “The Kids program uses the Crown Lounge from 7 to 8PM and maybe I should have considered eating after 8PM”

How absurd! Anyone that dines at the specialty restaurants would expect to be to talk with their tablemates and not be required to dine at a specific time to enjoy the meal.

The Crew and the Ship were great. I could not say anything negative about the crew (except the Guest Services) if I wanted to. The crew seemed to genuinely enjoy their jobs and working together. The ship is in fantastic shape, it came out of dry dock in 2013 and shows little or no wear since then. The entertainment and food are subjective so my opinions may differ from others.

I would be glad to answer any questions you may have. Let me say that I am not complaining to hear myself complain. My only point is that these issues were not handled well and to avoid cabins 8046 & 8048.

“The worse cruise I have been on was just wonderful !”

Was there a problem getting off the ship in Belize? I've heard some reports that there were huge lines for the tenders on some cruises.

I would like to know this too. I've read a number of reviews stating that it could take an hour or two to get off. This sounds absurd (not that it may not be true). What was your experience?

Thanx

Erika

Yes, there was a slow debark because the Coral reef extends so far out from the island that Cruise ships have to anchor far away. The long ride on the tender boat plus the fact that everyone has to be the first to get off makes it at least 40 minutes to a 1 1/2 hour or more trip.

Thank you for the update. Is it the trip that takes so long or the small tenders or to few tenders. I was reading that the lines were up the stairs to the casino and it took people more than an hour to even get down to a tender.

Thanx again,

Erika

Hi Birdlady,

That was me that posted that. I should add were were on a sold out cruise over spring break.

I hope other sailings haven't experienced the long wait we did. Royal should have issued tickets to disembark.

How annoying, I am sorry that you suffered from this inconvenience on your cruise. We are in cabin 8544 and 8546 in May, which appears to be on the other side of the ship from your cabins. I had paid particular attention, when I booked our cabins, that they were in an area that I didn't think would suffer from Deck 9 noise. Looking at the deck plan, I am amazed that they can fit table tennis table'sin the space.

I never normally book a cabin under a public deck but a Junior suite was too enticing to resist. Lesson learned!

Unfortunately, if you want a non-aft JS on Vision class, it's got to be under a public deck.

Hi chetsky, thanks for the review! We are about to board this week. How was the motion on the the ship for the week? Also how bad was it getting off in roatan, how long of a editor what time did you start waiting in line to get off the ship? Thanks again. And so sorry for the ping pong. Did you have ear plugs??

I am glad you liked the Vision. We had a wonderful cruise on her last winter. And I am totally totally totally sympathetic to the noise issues you endured!!! The same thing happened to us on Rhapsody. We were in a JS under the Cafe and it was dreadful. Late at night, early in the morning....we would never take that location again, not even if it were offered for free.

We had virtually flat seas for the majority of the cruise. However due to the size of the Vision it will rock and roll a lot more in heavy seas than the "Behemoths of the Seas".

Roatan was a short walk from the pier to the "retail opportunities" on shore.

Ah - the lines to get off ! I hate lines and never get off until it's "walk off" time. The ships passenger capacity is 2400 and I think on every port call 2000 of them want to be the first off!

Oh no! We just got assigned room 8048 (we had booked a JS Guarantee) for the April 16 Transatlantic sailing. any other issues with this room? Any pictures of the room you can share?

Thank you in advance!

Trey, if there is any other JS still available, you can ask to be moved to that JS. You can change a guarantee cabin within the same catagory.

All sold out a few weeks ago. I tried as soon as we got the assignment. :(

You might be be in luck - typically there's not too many kids on a TA cruise.

And most of the players on our cruise were spring breakers and tended

to be a bit more rowdy.

Stay on Guest Services - the least they should give you is some future cruise credit.

Fair Winds and smooth seas.
