ramrax4 Posted April 1, 2016 #1 Share Posted April 1, 2016 I was told by Princess that you can't use your OBC in the Casino which is fine by me. So my question is if you want to gamble do you use cash, because obviously you can't use your sign and sail card? This brings me to the next question: we have a slot pull planned for our group, if you insert your S & S card for the points and any winnings are automatically loaded onto your card how does the casino know the difference between your winnings and your OBC when you cash out your winnings? I am assuming it will say on the card, is this right? When we cruised on another line we could go to the casino, use our OBC to gamble a few $$ and then take out cash in increments up to $300 a day. On every one of my Princess cruises in the last decade or so, you can use your sign and sail card for gambling. I am not sure if it used my OBC or not as I have always spent more than my allotted OBC so whatever amount that I transferred onto my card, it was just added onto my folio as a charge. If what they told you is true, they may not allow this to be taken against your OBC but you can still charge it to your onboard account by transferring it onto your card. I don't play the tables but for slots and video poker, just insert your card into the machine and set it up using your birthday and a secret pass code. Charge a specific amount to your card and play. Transfer any remaining balance (including any winnings) back to your card before leaving the machine. You can move to another machine and access the money in your bank (from the card) or if you are done playing, you can go to the cashier cage and tell them you want to cash out and they will give you the balance in cash. skynight Posted April 1, 2016 #4 Share Posted April 1, 2016 I was told by Princess that you can't use your OBC in the Casino which is fine by me. Don't know who you spoke with but the information is not correct. It works this way. For slots, insert your cruise card into a slot machine. A screen comes up where you sign in. After sign in you select how much you want to load into the slot machine, for example $100. You then have $100 worth of credit on the slot machine. After playing you cash out and the balance remaining, if any, goes back into your casino account. You can leave your account open for future play, or cash it out at the casino cashier. The casino $100 charge is posted to your on board account as a purchase, and the account will net against any credit balance that you may have. The casino charge is handled just like any other on board purchase charge. In the Princess accounting system OBC's are not separated into spending categories, and you can't specifically designate how and when you want to spend them. The system is just a simple credit & debit one, with OBC's being credits and any charges being the debits. At the start of the cruise all your OBC's, refundable and non-refundable, will be shown as credits so you start the cruise with a credit balance. On board expenses, such as the casino slot purchase, will be added to your account and your balance due will be netted.

whimbly Posted April 3, 2016 #6 Share Posted April 3, 2016 so you can use your card for the casino but can you still use cash in the machines thanks for the help
diane.in.ny Posted April 3, 2016 #7 Share Posted April 3, 2016 Any casino winnings DO NOT go to your on board account. They stay on your room card. That needs to be cashed out before the casino closes the last night of the cruise. And, to answer another question, yes, you can use cash in the machines but any winnings have to be transferred to your room card. Once transferred, you can either leave it and use it another night or take it to the cage to cash out. And don't worry about setting things up ... plenty of staff (and other pax) to help you set your card up .. especially at the beginning of the cruise. This is from my account on Princess: Onboard Credits are essentially onboard spending money that is applied to your shipboard folio. At the end of your cruise, these credits are applied to your final balance due. You may receive these credits as a result of a special promotion from Princess or your travel agent. The following is a detailed list of applicable credits. Please note that purchased and gifted Onboard Credits for this booking will be available onboard even though they are not visible on this list. Like everyone else has stated. You can use your room card in the casino. Purchase credits and use that to gamble with. The amount that you chose to charge will show up on your portfolio for room charges. REMEMBER to get any balance left on your card from the casino the night before as that is your last opportunity before they close shop.

crochetcruise Posted April 4, 2016 #10 Share Posted April 4, 2016 thanks so much for all the helpful answers. :D Absolutely! I've made the decision to just purchase regular On Board Credits rather than specific Casino Credits. I was thinking of putting the money I need for taxi fares in Melbourne into Casino Credits, but taking a designated purse might be easier for me-I find the taxi drivers here LOVE a customer who has the correct amount of money, even if it's $1 and $2 coins, which is how the AUD$ 1 & 2 comes. I'm always straight upfront with the taxi driver, explaining I have the budgeted amount in gold coins, is that acceptable? Never been declined, usually greeted with relief from the taxi driver, who's been caught with a large bill for a small fare too often, someone who is organised enough to have small change AND the correct amount, is VERY welcome! I've been taught by the owners of the taxi company I regularly use, that a good driver won't object to a handful of coins in payment of my fare-if any other THEIR drivers complains, they NEED to know! I am known among the taxi drivers for being organised with small change, there was much regret when I moved closer into town and no longer NEED to use the taxis as much. masterty Posted April 4, 2016 #11 Share Posted April 4, 2016 On our last cruise I noticed 2 balances. 1 balance said refundable and the other non-refundable. I placed cash on my DW and my cruise cards (joint account). When monitoring our accounts we watched each of our non-refundable OBC disappear prior to the refundable cash being used. I drew cash from my cruise card at the tables in the casino. When i viewed my statement the funds came from the refundable field displayed on the statement. Eventually all of the non-refundable moneys were gone from various on board spending and this non-refundable column disappeared. This left only the refundable amount remaining. Although that is the resulting effect, they do not wait for the end of the cruise to apply OBC. Each day OBC will be used to offset your daily charges, so it is possible for all of the OBC to have been applied long before the end of the cruise. The only time the end of the cruise matters is when you have multiple people in the same cabin using the same charge card. In that case, the two balances will be combined at the end of the cruise and if one of the people did have unused OBC, it will be applied to the balance that the other person had. Bubble-Ont. Posted April 4, 2016 #13 Share Posted April 4, 2016 When booking our upcoming cruise. we received $150.00 on board credit. It specified this OBC could not be used in the casino. I would think that any OBC you buy you would be able to access....just not what the cruise line gives.
