We are cruising on the Sapphire Princess in Jan. 2005 and need a hotel in Auckland, New Zealand for 2 nights. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks,

We stayed at the Sheraton Auckland on a Princess pre cruise tour this past December. It is a nice hotel with nice facilities. Princess as did an excellent job getting us and our luggage to the hotel and from the hotel to the ship. The hotel is in Auckland but not in the center of downtown. It on a hill overlooking downtown. Walking downtown was easy walking back to the hotel took a little more effort but was certainly not a problem.

The morning the ship left, we followed the instructions for luggage handling and checked out of our hotel well before they had scheduled busses to pick us up. We walked down to the waterfront and took the ferry to Rangatoto for the morning and then came back to board the ship in the early afternoon.

Another great option would be to book the Auckland Hilton which is on the pier where the cruise terminal is located. That hotel was not one of the hotels Princess used for its pre/post programs but if you are doing air on your own then that would be a great option. In our case it was cheaper to use Princess air and the Sheraton then our own air and the Hilton.

We stayed at the Hyatt 2 years ago and were very pleased. We got a great rate on the club floor. The breakfast and snacks were a money saver. The concierege was very helpful and arranged transportation from the airport and to the ship.

thanks for the suggestions. It helps when someone has already been there. I just heard about the Sky City Hotel. Does anyone know anything about this hotel?

The Sheraton Auckland was very nice - we booked it ourselves - at a much better rate than thru Princess - (and got Starwood points etc.) also it was a convenience to be where the Princess people were. We were able to book our tours with them - and transfer to the hotel and then to the airport on the Princess bus. They had a hospitality room that was convenient with coffee, tea & cookies. If you don't want to walk downtown, there is a local bus just outside the hotel that is just a few cents and you can take that all around and see Auckland and get off wherever you want. See if you can get a package w/breakfast as the hotel breakfast buffet is fantastic but expensive --or you can just go outside to a local eatery - they are near enough.

Hi there

I am sending this post from Auckland. All the hotels mentioned are first-class hotels and very nice. Sky City is the casino hotel and also very nice, right in the centre of Auckland. If you go to www.wotif.com you can see special rates up to two weeks prior to booking but you can also see information about hotels.
