why the controversy anyway???

Maybe I am a simple one but:

If you don't wanna attend formal night- then DON'T. Gor to the Buffet or order room service, two VERY good options.

if you want to attend formal night then dress FORMALLY.

Ice cream might not be free on the ship but the loveboat dream is- order 2 of them.

If you like soda, then buy a soda card. (please stop posting "how do I get a soda card?"- do a search and you can get the answers from the 1684 other times this has been asked)

NO, I did not stay in cabin c206, and it is unlikely that anyone here did. Instead, why not ask "did anyone stay in a BC class on the Caribe deck? Better odds right?

The coffee is awful, there is no debate. For those who say the like it, I suspect they use instant Sanka at home. A fellow passenget said it best on the Grand "The coffee tastes fine, if you eat 1/2 a grapefruit first."

Every port of call has pro and cons. Decide what YOU like to do and seek that out. There is not a port that is a "wasted stop". There are passengers who don't take the iniative to get off their arses and find a way to enjoy themselves.

Yes, the tipping is all pooled together off your shipboard account. HOWEVER, you can still tip for good service. If you just paid a few grand to go on a cruise, you can certainly afford an extra couple bucks for your room steward.

Bring your kid (s) if you want, it's your money and your vacation. Don't ask me if your kid is going to enjoy it, I have never met your child.

I know about the chair hogs. Obviously they missed the lesson on sharing while in preschool. I have no easy answers for this since I don't personally enjoy laying around watching other people swim. We can talk about it here until taxes go down and every welfare recipient is gainfully employed, but I suspect this problem will not be so easily solved.

thats all for now- thanks for letting me soapbox icon_razz.gif

The search does not work worth an empty soda can, but 1-800-Princess does.

NO, I did not stay in cabin c206, and it is unlikely that anyone here did. Instead, why not ask "did anyone stay in a BC class on the Caribe deck? Better odds right?

Yes, but there are a few highly unique cabins so we have to forgive that

The coffee is awful, there is no debate. For those who say the like it, I suspect they use instant Sanka at home. A fellow passenget said it best on the Grand "The coffee tastes fine, if you eat 1/2 a grapefruit first."

I like the coffee, and I like it best after a 6 course meal I didn't have to cook or clean up after.

Every port of call has pro and cons. Decide what YOU like to do and seek that out. There is not a port that is a "wasted stop". There are passengers who don't take the iniative to get off their arses and find a way to enjoy themselves.

Some times being on your *** (arse) is the best thing to do in a port, been to Ocho Rios?

Yes, the tipping is all pooled together off your shipboard account. HOWEVER, you can still tip for good service. If you just paid a few grand to go on a cruise, you can certainly afford an extra couple bucks for your room steward.

Tipping is easily figured out, see a current post or try using the broken search ;-)

Bring your kid (s) if you want, it's your money and your vacation. Don't ask me if your kid is going to enjoy it, I have never met your child.

There are some lines and ships that make a greater effort towards children, this is also a fair queerie.

Chair hogs are just misunderstood, or rude, selfish pigs, you pick I don't care.

If you are this bothered after 44 posts and a couple of years.. it might be time to cruise more and read less... again you pick not my concern.

I find it interesting to look at the Topics you started as a "newbie"

1/22/04 "for the newbie...what IS included?"

1/30/04 "is room service "free"???"

1/31/04 "Coffee on the Grand"

We were all new to these boards once. At the time we ALL had questions. For the same reasons you posted your "newbie" questions, so does the next "newbie".

Please be helpful and just answer the questions you know the answers to, now that you have the experience; instead of critizing the question.

I just sailed my first Princess cruise in March and I can't begin to express how much I appreciate the members of this board answering Princess-specific questions I just know had been asked many times before.

Here's the good part: Through those responses I walked aboard the Golden and in many ways felt as though I had sailed her before.

The wealth of knowledge so many of you represent is considerable and I'd sure hate to deny another new person access.

To lurking and curious members: Ask away, we've all been there

jennyw - funny thing, I thought this was a "chat" room. If u r bothered with people asking questions then create a website and u can answer every conceivable question for all cruisers. That way nobody will have to ask anymore questions.

I agree. I was a newbie just recently. I never used a message board before, and had no idea there was a search option. I didn't have a clue what was going on.

Thanks to everyone's patience, I caught on and enjoy these boards, and have learned tons. We owe others the same consideration.

Like formal night; if you don't want to dress up, don't go.

If you don't want to read a topic that has been asked before, don't do that either.

If you want to enjoy the boards, this is the place to be!!

Sounds like JENNEW is a bit cranky today (or maybe everyday, who knows)!

This website is a forum for those who have questions they need answered to come to and to debate and give their opinions and thoughts.

If you already know the answers to some that are being asked JENNEW, than don't read those particular posts. If some of the questions you find boring don't read them. If some of the questions you find annoying don't read them. If some of the questions you find redundant, dont read them.

Why are you so stressed/annoyed at those who come here to find answers? Perhaps you can start a cruise question and answer website and create your own rules.

What do you think??

Vicki...well said icon_smile.gif

Sure, if you spend any amount of time here you'll see the same questions pop up but that doesn't stop me from reading them or answering them. And occasionally, something will be brought up I had no idea about!

So everyone, ask your questions....and if people don't like the question, they can just hit the back button icon_smile.gif

Whether it's the same question or not everone is entitled to an opinion and this is the place to express your personal experiences and thoughts.

Here is a good example... for the record my wife and I really enjoyed our time in Ocho Rios.

How about that! icon_wink.gif

I'm a fence sitter on this one.

When you come here with a question, check back a few boards first. The question you want to ask may have the answer right there. I have seen, as I'm sure we all have, a question being asked that has been asked and answered merely a scroll away. One for example is, "Can I bring wine on board?"

Conversely, I and others love the chance to answer questions because it gives us a chance to air our opinion and relive our memories.

Based an all of the above, I have a picket firmly planted in my butt. Ouch!

All the best!

I agree with the original post that alot of these topics have an aspect of 'common sense' to them, i.e. not every port excursion/activity/cabin will appeal to every cruiser, and you have to take people's opinions as just that...their opinion from their perspective.

That said...I can hardly ever get the 'search' function to work on this board. There are many times I have had a question about a particular topic I KNOW I have seen here somewhere, but when I search for it, I get the 'error' message.

A very offensive message to some very nice people. I have been on 10 cruises and just joined this chat group less than a month ago. And I can honestly say that I have learned more from this wonderful group of friends than I learned on any cruise. Best room locations, what to order, where to try what, who to go to for information, valuable websites, and I could go on and on. As others have said, if you are totaly knowledgeable about cruising, then you certainly don't need this group and that's your choice. Just as we have a choice to continue asking questions and answering as well. "Viva la difference." Terrible French, I know, but I'm sure I got the point across. That's my soapbox for the day!

Happy cruising,

Lynda

Speaking of inflamatory, that was taken out of context and when taken in context wasn't about who had posted more it was about relaxing, something EVERYONE could benefit from. I did nothing to her compared to the post one or two down from me.. did you have some agenda in pointing out my comment? Certainly seems like you did.

Asking the same questions may bring new and different responses. The cruiseline may change their coffee supplier. The Loveboat dream may have it's recipe changed (wasn't that the case recently)

I read the posts because some new tidbit may be revealed, or a new contact discovered, or a new friend to meet.

While the value of shore excursions are a personal matter, there are some that are deemed "not to be missed" by many and others where I'd like to see other's opinion of why they didn't like it. I may agree with their reasons and choose to spend my time elsewhere.

I love these boards and have learned a lot and have been keeping notes for my upcoming cruise next month. Thanks everyone who has ever posted.
