why the controversy anyway???

If we stopped answering the same old questions...Would there even be a Cruise Critic talk board?????????
Think about it, if we didn't ask about the coffee, cabin assignment, chair hogs, formal night, jeans in diningroom, CD's, tipping, smuggling liquor and all the rest of the questions that are frequently asked...what would there be to talk about on a site that is set up to talk about cruising!
If the newbies become afraid to ask a question for fear of being flamed...you would see alot less action on this site. It would be like some of the other travel sites, that don't get nearly the responses that you will find here on this site.
I agree with those who say...if you don't like a question that is asked...skip it...go to another post.

CruisingForLife -

I 100% get where you are coming from. I still appreciate the tongue-in-cheek approach - it reminds all of us that our lives can't be that bad if we all have the $$ and means to cruise. We can nit-pick about little things until the sun goes down, but in the end - people have a lot bigger problems in this world than somebody inappropriately dressed during formal night. We put so much time and energy into the little things - god bless us that we are able to stress about these things and not the bigger issues in life.

Now - one topic I have never really seen discussed and would love - thoughts on people pulling their kids out of school to go on a cruise!!

quote:
if you want to attend formal night then dress FORMALLY.
about 50% of people on these boards see it another way, not me by the way.

According to the unscientific poll I posted a few weeks ago, 83% of the respondants indicated they would prefer formal dress.

You forgot about the mandatory muster drills, the fact that you're on a ship and it moves across water and so is subject to a rocking motion and the fact that the standard shot poured in to alcoholic drinks isn't enough...

Frankly some of these "controversial" postings are the most fun...at least I have a blast with them...they prove a lot of things.

quote:
That said, this will be my 20th cruise, first ever on Princess and it's because of these boards that I often make many of my cruise decisions.

Frightening thought

A post like that will keep me from posting. I tend to be a very shy person anyways and hate to ask something "stupid" but the search doesn't always work and then you have to ask or hope that someone else will ask your question. Just another way of looking at this post.

Yes, it was on this board. If the search ever gets off the error, I will try to find it. Most felt it was not a good idea if they were in junior to high school. OK in the lower grades. Several teachers thought traveling with kids was educational for them. Very good post.

DSNYFAN, Jump on in. There are enough of us to cover your back!! There is so much to learn about cruising. Many of us have been on several cruises and are still learning. Some are quick studies, but many, like me, it takes a few kicks in the a** to get it. LOL. Please don't judge all by a few. We are friendly, and fun. Try us, you might like us. Don't ever be afraid to post.

I think the cruise critic message boards (the search function not withstanding) is one of easiest to navigate and one of the most enjoyable message boards I have participated in. And I absolutely love a long thread that twist and turns and gets "barky-bity" and then everybody apologizes to everybody else, and then people get defensive and then go on the offensive and the cycle starts all over again. I absolutely have so much fun reading them, and it really doesn't matter what the topic is about. Some of the authors with the greatest wit can at times come across as cynical and at other times play peacemaker. It is really fascinating getting to know the "personalities" on these boards. I just luv it.

Well, Jennew, why don't we just fold up and close down...you took care of it all, huh? By the way, how did you find the answers to all these questions when you first visited Cruise Critic??? All you new folks out there, don't pay any attention. Ask all you want. There is always someone who will happily respond to your questions.

These boards helped a lot before we went on our first cruise last summer. I love to read what everyone has to say about the Caribbean Princess and will most likely have a few more questions. I will try not to be as shy and ask a few of them before long. Thanks to everyone on these boards.

Hey Jenn, I enjoyed your original post. I caught the humor even if "Those that are easily offended" didn't. THEY are the one's needing a chill pill.

I'm sure that if there was a post that asked a repeat question, you could/would just ignore it.

Sometimes I do think, "Another post on THAT subject? Can't people read?", then I think back on MY last post. Surely no one would EVER think that of ME!!! But yes, I too am guilty, on occasion, of throwing up a post without looking back several pages for the answer that is usually there somewhere. Someone always answers my question, for which I am grateful.

And there's nothing wrong with an occasional "controversial" post! Thanks, JENNEW, for providing us with one!

I have a system that works quite well, if I dont like the topic.............................
I SKIP OVER IT!!! Very simple solution, and it has worked well for me. If I let everything get on my nerves I would need meds! I just let it roll off my back and move on, thats all!

Geez people, I go away for a little while and all the love falls of this board. Everyone should form a group hug - all the 20-25 year old females can hug me. As jenny did try to explain they were meant tongue in cheek which is how I read them and was having a good old titter - am I allowed to say 'titter' on this chat-board ???? I was trying to think of some of others to add e.g.

No you can not dive over the side of the ship and swim ashore

No you can not have a private barbecue on your balcony

No fishing is not allowed while cruising

No the captain does not go home to his own house every night.

Yes the ship does generate its own electricity

If you don't find the above helpful then, I don't care, I have my flame-proof undies on (and very comfortable they are too)

Ken, you forgot to add that the crew does, in fact, live on the ship.
