Benefits of booking another cruise whilst onboard

We are sailing on the Star on May 16th and have been told this will be when the prices and bookings are released for Alaska 2005.

Has anyone booked a future cruise whilst onboard? What are the advantages, if any? Would it be cheaper to wait till we return and book with a TA online?

I don't know if it would be cheaper, but the advantage is you can do an open booking, no date, no ship, no cabin, for $100 pp.And you get a cabin credit depending on cabin, plus you have 4 years to book, and is transferable to your TA when you decide.

Steve (Srphnx) is the best source of information on this topic.

He and others contributed a considerable body of knowledge on the board via this thread:

Booking On Board

I'd check there too for more information

Thanks Chris,

Steve (srphnx) may not be the best source but I did book two open cruises while on Diamond April 17th and have used them both already.

The are no downsides and you can use your TA, I did and she was glad for the business.

Thanks for the replies but if you know the ship, dates and cabin you want, can you book the cruise there and then or can you only book an 'open booking'?

Of course you can book a specific sailing as well as an open, the ship takes the reduced deposit, and you can still transfer to your TA for service and pricing.

But... take our advice and book an open one as well, you won't be sorry and it is fully refundable in the 4 years it is good.

All good answers and another is the feeling knowing you have another cruise to look forward to even before you disembark from your current one.
