Day Trip from Istanbul to Gallipoli ...

My husband and I will be on HAL Prinsendam arriving in Istanbul at 8am on Monday 17th October and sailing out again on Tuesday 18th October at 5am.

Is there any chance we could use these 21 hours to go on a tour to Gallipoli?

It can be done but it borders on being a brutally long day. We checked into it a couple of years ago at the end of a cruise ending in Istanbul. Generally the day tours, and we checked with a couple of tour companies, were like 15-18 hours from pickup to return. The most recommended company wanted to pick us up at 6:30 AM and return us to the hotel close to midnight. Mrs. K vetoed that idea and we toured around Istanbul and easily filled the day.

I'd have to agree with the above. It's possible -- and there are tours -- but it is a long distance and a long day that requires a significant amount of travel time by car + ferry and return.

After I posted I went back and looked at my emails and notes about a day trip to Gallipoli from Istanbul. The companies were pretty consistent in estimating 5 - 6 hours one way so 10-12 hours just traveling and 4-5 hours at the various points of interest at Gallipoli. Both companies actually recommended an overnight, basically a 2-day tour, but we'd already paid for our hotel in Istanbul and had a fixed return flight home so that was not an option.
