cruising cockroach Posted June 14, 2016 #3 Posted June 14, 2016 Used to be 2 laundry rooms but one was removed so there's only one now, mid-ship, port side, on a lower deck (not 1).
DarkCrystal Posted June 14, 2016 #4 Posted June 14, 2016 Used to be 2 laundry rooms but one was removed so there's only one now, mid-ship, port side, on a lower deck (not 1). Deck 3.
rapata Posted August 2, 2016 #5 Posted August 2, 2016 We were on Zaandam for the last 2 weeks. The self service laundry in on Deck 3, has 4 washers and 4 dryers. It was very busy the last 2 days before Seward and first 2 days after, I guess from people doing land tours.
frugaltravel Posted December 14, 2016 #6 Posted December 14, 2016 Do the washers include laundry soap? When I was on the Ryndam in 2015, they had liquid soap attached to the machines - just push a button. The soap was no additional charge. Wondering if the Zaandam washers are like that or if the ship sells laundry soap separately.

The only thing you need to bring (if you like to use them) is dryer sheets.

janetjulie Posted December 15, 2016 #9 Posted December 15, 2016 (edited) Nice to know soap is still provided. Do the machines take coins or tokens? How much for a wash and dry? Edited December 15, 2016 by janetjulie forgot question mark.
RuthC Posted December 15, 2016 #10 Posted December 15, 2016 Do the machines take coins or tokens? How much for a wash and dry? The machines take quarters, which are available at the Front Desk. The price is $1.00 and $2.00 for the two.

It's Deck 3. There were some issues with the dryers, not drying very well. The front desk has rolls of quarters.
cruising cockroach Posted December 17, 2016 #12 Posted December 17, 2016 It's Deck 3. There were some issues with the dryers, not drying very well. Not just that but I forgot to add that one of the dryers ruined some clothes (black rubber gasket marks). One of the dryers closest to the port side of the ship. Hopefully it's bee replaced or repaired since.

From one of the Roll Call threads, it appears that the Zaandam no longer has self-service laundry. So no need to replace/repair them, just remove them  Edited December 17, 2016 by frugaltravel

I think I'll stay on freighters from now on. Edited December 18, 2016 by cruising cockroach

I was counting on doing my own laundry!
cruising cockroach Posted December 18, 2016 #16 Posted December 18, 2016 Do you remember where you read this? I was counting on doing my own laundry! The deck plans on HAL.com do reflect no laundry facility now. The Amsterdam and Rotterdam are also missing the laundry. The Volendam still has it 4 berths aft of the main atrium.

However, in the list of Public Rooms to the right of the map, it still mentions the launderette...???

On board the Zaandam 2 years ago, the forward laundry room was still showing on the ship's brass diagrams and signage.
Rare TiogaCruiser Posted December 18, 2016 #19 Posted December 18, 2016 Well, bummer. I'm on her in March. That changes my packing strategy. Does she still have an Explorers Lounge and Adagio? Any library? Are there still DVDs in the cabins? (At least she has a promenade deck...)

However, in the list of Public Rooms to the right of the map, it still mentions the launderette...??? Good news! I just called HAL, and he told me that they did a "refit", whatever that means. He also said that it does not show on the deck plan anymore, but that the launderette is still there :D
dockman Posted December 18, 2016 #21 Posted December 18, 2016 I was on Zaandam Oct 2, 2016 for 37 days....there was still a self serve laundry on the LP deck.

frugaltravel Posted December 27, 2016 #23 Posted December 27, 2016 Yes. Four washers and four dryers still on deck 3. Who knows how long they will be around.
YankeePenny Posted January 2, 2017 #24 Posted January 2, 2017 I hope the laundry facility is still there when we cruise Sept 2018. IF not , I will be hauling laundry off the ship to do. I am not packing clothes for two weeks.
