Whoa! Don't blame the port!

I'll give Tampa another go next year but when I asked about Jacksonville I was told it was because the port facilities weren't large enough to handle non-US customs. So regardless of blame, it seems Jacksonville (a city I really enjoyed visiting mind you) isn't equipped at the port so I'll still be avoiding it regardless of whose fault it is because I don't want that experience to be repeated which I think is fair.

Years ago, when I was a Canadian citizen and we went to Barbados we had to meet in the lounge early and be pre-screened because we weren't American. One lady behind be just sat and bit**ed and complained the whole time. After half an hour I turned around and said, maybe they are just trying to make their country secure like Canadians do. Your lack of understanding and complaining is not helping anything.

Two days later I saw her on deck. She came up to me and apologized and told me, yes, I was totally out of line and should have accepted the procedure. It happens. Accept it and realize that other countries have rules too.

 My Pet Peeve: No division between smoking and non-smoking sections of casino.

Divide the thing with a glass wall and good ventilation on the smoking side so the smoke doesn't drift out of the smoking side into adjacent parts of the ship. That way everyone can gamble comfortably in their desired section of casino.

 My Pet Peeve: People in the buffet placing the tongs so the part of the tongs people touch lay on the food.

Stick the tongs in the food or container so that the handle sticks above the food or lays outside of the container.

 My Pet Peeve: Elevators! 1) People not letting elevator riders off before piling in. 2) And piling in if there is a handicapped person or a person in a wheelchair needing to exit the elevator. 3) People piling into an elevator before handicapped or a wheelchair is able to get in first and get positioned.

Be courteous!!! It may be you or a loved one someday who needs time to safely get in or out before being swarmed!

Or I could just sail out of all the other ports that don't make you do that like Tampa, Long Beach, Miami, Orlando, Galveston...

This checks all boxes for me - smokers, touching food & elevator idiots.

Airlines and cruise lines both annoy me by not keeping passengers informed about delays, cancellations, etc. I realize there are times that there is not enough information to make an informed decision and announcement, but there are plenty of times they don't say anything till the just possible moment leaving passengers to scramble.

You are totally missing the point. We had left port and were in the middle of the cruise. As we entered another country they wanted to pre-screen everyone who wasn't American. I guess their laws have certain rules of who they left in - just like the United States of America. It doesn't matter what port you leave from if a certain country wants to screen non US cruisers. Open up your mind and figure out what I'm saying. It has NOTHING to do with where the cruise started.

Sorry, it was not clear in your post that it was Barbados that was screening you this way, I thought it was upon return to the home port after a cruise to Barbados. I've never had more than a cursory glance at my ID when entering a destination port before so this was a little outside my realm of personal experience.

It was a simple misunderstanding not a matter of how open my mind is but before you feel the need to get more personally insulting I'm just going to unfollow this post. I apologize if I upset you.

Add people who feel the need to insult you on cruise message boards to my list of pet peeves, but that could just be my rampant closed-mindedness speaking, I hear I have a real problem there :p

#2 People popping up their cell phones and tablets to record shows in the darkened theater so I have to see their lit screens in front of me.

Especially after an announcement that due to copyright rules, recording is not allowed.

It may be an "emotional support animal." There's a lady in Arkansas who has an emotional support skunk and shops with it at Walmart. I wonder if she will ever bring it on a cruise?

Emotional support animals are NOT service animals, and do not have the same rights as service animals.

Most annoying and disgusting.... people who touch the food at the buffet and DO NOT TAKE IT!!! Yuch!

I actually say something at that point. If necessary I call an officer over.

The worst I ever saw was a woman with a fork tasting all the dishes with the same fork. She was even licking the fork before sticking it back in. I reported it and it was like she couldn't understand what the fuss was about.
