Maksim Posted June 24, 2016 #1 Share Posted June 24, 2016 Our cruise ship docks in Athens on Easter Sunday. Any suggestions? Does anyone know if taxis and/or HOHO is working on that day? Some of our folks from roll call requested from RCCL to change it to next day, but I am not so sure that cruise line will be willing to do that. Want to be prepared. Thank you. GrJ Berkshire Posted June 24, 2016 #2 Share Posted June 24, 2016 Which Easter? Remember Greek Orthodox Easter is different to RC Easter, check the dates.
Maksim Posted June 25, 2016 Author #3 Share Posted June 25, 2016 Which Easter? Remember Greek Orthodox Easter is different to RC Easter, check the dates. Good point. Thank you. We are there on April 16, 2017. I am not very familiar with different religious holidays but that's what folks on our roll call have indicated. Britchic4 Posted December 11, 2016 #6 Share Posted December 11, 2016 Yes we are on Crown Princess in Chania/Souda Bay on Easter Sunday. I'm expecting only some shops & restaurants to be open, not any sights. I imagine there will be a little more open in Athens.
Jwugg Posted December 12, 2016 #7 Share Posted December 12, 2016 Athens & Chania city centres will be fantastic on Easter Sunday! It is the biggest celebration of the year. Unfortunately you'll miss the huge midnight mass, bonfires, fireworks, candlelit processions. BUT you will find plenty of traditional Easter feasts at tavernas around the cities. Depending on the time you arrive, you may see one of the church services, some of which include processions around the neighbourhood. In Chania, there is no doubt, just head for the Venetian harbour, there will be plenty of cafes open, people having a volta (stroll) around the beautiful old harbour & plenty of places to eat proper Cretan food. Plenty of people out & about eating & drinking & celebrating Easter.
