andynalex66 Posted July 3, 2016 #1 Share Posted July 3, 2016 Hi there, Just wondering about MDR menu's. Are they different if your sailing in Europe vs Caribbean?
Clarea Posted July 3, 2016 #2 Share Posted July 3, 2016 Lack of "free" lobster in Europe is the only difference that comes to mind.
Ashland Posted July 3, 2016 #3 Share Posted July 3, 2016 Their even the same when sailing in Asia (or at least they were on Mariner).
Newby58 Posted July 3, 2016 #4 Share Posted July 3, 2016 Menu's must change due to region in some respects as I have never had "free" lobster on any sailing out of Sydney ☹️

andynalex66 Posted July 3, 2016 Author #9 Share Posted July 3, 2016 Thanks everyone. I suppose a dish or two but sounds pretty consistent worldwide.
cb at sea Posted July 3, 2016 #10 Share Posted July 3, 2016 No..the menus are pretty standard...they might add a dish or two to accommodate a different culture, but they will be almost identical no matter where you sail on the same cruise line. krev Posted July 3, 2016 #11 Share Posted July 3, 2016 (edited) We thought the menu was quite different when we sailed from Southampton to the Med, compared to what we had in the Caribbean. umlaut Posted July 3, 2016 #12 Share Posted July 3, 2016 Their even the same when sailing in Asia (or at least they were on Mariner). Not those departing from China. Later learned that they are called cultural immersion cruises internally in RCI. I would never ever again go on such a cruise. Way worse standards all over. The menu hardly changed and offered more or less only one western dish and it was cooked horribly. The staff is changed and bars are closed and replaced by high end shopping stores. krev Posted July 4, 2016 #14 Share Posted July 4, 2016 (edited) Ive read that as well. I would love to see a copy :) I didn't take any pictures of the menus, I like to be surprised! There were a lot of British inspired dishes, I couldn't even tell you what they were but I do recall noticing it. I do remember trifle for dessert one night. Langley Cruisers Posted July 4, 2016 #15 Share Posted July 4, 2016 You may notice subtle differences due to the ingredients available and used on board. For example, on our Med cruise we had the most delicious desserts - the cheesecake tasted like it was (gulp!) real cream cheese! It was absolutely delicious. Yogurt available in the WJ buffet was different, obviously, as the provisions were not from North America. It was interesting.

Ours was Singapore-Shanghai and not considered an "immersion" cruise....some subtle additions....but still the same RCI standard's in the dining room and WJ....the only thing I had trouble finding at first was good old fashioned yellow mustard...until they delivered enough packets to my cabin to last me the entire cruise...I was from then on known as the "mustard lady" by the staff in the WJ :D Yes...some changes onboard to the bars and the addition of high end shopping...but funny no one was shopping in them...they were all in the casino and certainly showed up in the Promenade for $10.00 shopping night ;):D

I can only imagine the nicknames some cruisers get for some of the nonsense that they do.....well -- maybe too much info, anyway.
