Celebrity Milennium - How dressy?

Recommended Posts

We are going on the Milennium in April 06'. Celebrity suggests jackets for the men for the dressy casual nights. Can anyone tell me what percentage of men actually wear jackets on those nights? I'm wondering if a shirt/tie and dress slacks are enough. Thanks!

Celebrity does not have anything called dressy casual nights. There's formal, informal and casual nights on all Celebrity cruises. Formal is a dark suit, tux or dinner jacket, informal is dress slacks, dress shirt and jacket (with or without tie, but many men do opt for the tie) and casual is collared shirt (either a polo/golf shirt or other casual collared shirt) and casual (not jeans) slacks like khaki or dockers-type slacks. I've not seen any men who do not wear the jacket/sport coat on informal night, but it seems evenly split between wearing ties and not wearing ties.

Yeah...It's "informal" not "dressy casual"...

Pretty much everyone wears a jacket...the few that don't do stand out (as did the one guy in the dining room on our cruise with the "Members Only" jacket!!)

But, it's not quite as oppressive as you might think...

I generally bring a "tweed" sports coat--one that goes well with brown/green/khaki colored Dockers (the same pants I wear for casual nights) and a sports shirt...Sometime's I'll wear a tie although they no longer necessarily suggest a tie...I'd say there are more jacket/no ties than jacket w/ties...I've even seen a lot of sports coats with golf shirts or sports coats with dark T-shirts...

But, it is the jacket that makes the difference...

Just slacks and a sports shirt is really "casual" night attire...

On our Sept. Millennium cruise I would say that approx. 80% of the men wore a jacket on informal night. My husband brought both a sports jacket and his formal suit. He had debated just bringing his suit and having the jacket do "double duty" for both informal and formal, but on a 12 night cruise, that jacket would have appeared a few times too many:)

As Steve said, probably more jackets/without ties than with ties on informal night.

My DH wears the mock turtles with his sport coats on informal nights, no ties any more, the tux with several different tie/vest combos on formal nights & then linen slacks & differnt types of shirts for casual nights, no Dockers here.

My husband and I are sailing on the Millenium 4/30/06. This is a transatlantic cruise. Our cabin is very far forward (6026). If we have rough water will we have a rough ride, expecially vertical pitch due to being extremely forward? The theatre is directly below this cabin. Does anyone know if there is a lot of noise in the cabin from being above the theatre? We have sailed on the Summit and loved it, but we were mid ship on that cruise. If anyone can help, let us know.

Vertical pitch? Seriously? If I drop one ounce of my cocktail, there is going to be crying.

I had the third cabin from the front on the Maasdam, and could definately feel the motion more. We had 30 foot seas one night, and I was airborne several times. I went to the casino after putting my luggage out and the motion was much less. I found it fun. While laying in bed, it would literally drop out from under you.

Hi,

We have always been in 6027 (next May too) and have been through a couple of huge storms on Connie and Millie. There really wasn't any more motion than in other cabins we've been in. A slight up and down but nothing that didn't just rock us to sleep nicely and these were HUGE storms. (70 mph winds and 20 ft. waves on Connie.) As far as the noise.......I don't really recall hearing anything more than a slight thump occasionally and that was over by 10pm so don't worry about it. Just enjoy your extra-large balcony and have a great trip.

As the Penthouse Suite cabins are right at the back, presumably there isn't that much difference in the movement, otherwise they would be sited more mid-ship. This is only a thought not an actual observation though :D
