CeleBrat Posted July 30, 2016 #1 Share Posted July 30, 2016 I was reading someone's recent Vista trip report, where they mentioned that as Platinum travelers they got priority entrance to the dining room each night without having to check in. Is this true--on all the ships? We normally don't use My Time, but are having to use it for our next cruise because the other dining times are "sold out." Thanks!--CeleBrat
DebJ14 Posted July 30, 2016 #2 Share Posted July 30, 2016 (edited) I was reading someone's recent Vista trip report, where they mentioned that as Platinum travelers they got priority entrance to the dining room each night without having to check in. Is this true--on all the ships? We normally don't use My Time, but are having to use it for our next cruise because the other dining times are "sold out." Thanks!--CeleBrat According to the list of perks Platinum guests get Priority reservations at Main Dining Room and Specialty Restaurants while Diamond guests are guaranteed reservations at Main Dining Room and Specialty restaurants. You can waitlist for the dining time you want. If you don't get it, then see the Maitre D when you board. After he gets all his Diamond guests squared away, then he will see to the Platinum requests. We have always gotten what we want onboard if we did not get it when we booked our cruise. When we were Platinum we sometimes had to wait until the next morning to get our dining assignment, but now that I am Diamond we get it while we are talking to the Maitre D. I can't imagine they don't have to check in at My Time Dining since they are seated by the hostesses. They have to keep track of what tables are available at the podium. firemanbobswife Posted July 30, 2016 #3 Share Posted July 30, 2016 (edited) On the Vista currently there is a separate check in for Diamond and Platinum for Anytime Dining where you are escorted right to your table. Everyone else signs in and waits if necessary. This is only on the Vista right now. No idea if it will be rolled out fleet wide. figdu Posted July 30, 2016 #6 Share Posted July 30, 2016 It worked womderfully on the 6/11 sailing. Straight to the hostess desk rather then checkin on deck five with the potential for a buzzer.
firemanbobswife Posted July 30, 2016 #7 Share Posted July 30, 2016 Wow! Like. That's a nice perk. nice perk I agree. I haven't experienced it for myself, just going by what I saw in one of John Heald's videos from Vista. Another poster that had been on the ship confirmed it. I suppose if all the tables were full, you would have to wait but given priority seating. At least I think so. Maybe they will roll it out fleet wide as part of the changes to the VIFP club. He said that Platinums and Diamonds would be happy about something. Maybe this is it.

I think you are correct, and I'm anticipating this nice addition to the Platinum/Diamond perks. I just wish John would hurry up and make the announcement. I wouldn't think it would be too difficult to implement fleet-wide, and the cost would be minimal for Carnival to provide a nice perk to loyal customers. And it would actually be a valuable perk for a change. Thank you for sharing this information firemanbobswife. Much appreciated.

Since we almost never get anytime dining this perk would be rather useless for us so hope for our sake at least they give us something else. Sweet Dutch Girl Posted July 30, 2016 #10 Share Posted July 30, 2016 (edited) Oh..I can see it now. 500 platinum guests all choosing to go to dinner at the same time...the chaos, the upheaval. Glad I like late dining. Edited July 30, 2016 by Sweet Dutch Girl
martinchem Posted July 30, 2016 #11 Share Posted July 30, 2016 This would make me reconsider My Time Dining again, but I just can't do the 40 minute buzzer thing after the 15 minute line wait anymore.

I thought at first this would be a good thing but after considering this can see blood shed over this if people had to wait a long time and saw group after group getting in before them. On Vista it's a totally separate area. Different floors even.
firemanbobswife Posted July 30, 2016 #14 Share Posted July 30, 2016 Here's an excerpt from John Heald's blog: As for Your Time Dining, well, with so many of the guests choosing this option, the time most people had to wait for a table was minimal and that is brilliant news, indeed. The best times according to Chris, the maître d’ in the Horizons dining room, was (were) opening time until around 7pm and, then again, from 7:30pm – 8:30pm. Guests need to check in on Deck 5 by the Java Blue Café and then they get a pager. But for many, they were able to go straight to the dining room and be seated. And having the Diamond and Platinum and suite guests who booked Your Time Dining go straight to the dining room on Deck 3 was a great idea and really helped speed the process along. glrounds Posted July 30, 2016 #15 Share Posted July 30, 2016 Wow! Like. That's a nice perk. I quite agree . . . the only disadvantage, IMHO, to being PLATINUM and using Anytime Dining is getting the buzzer and having to wait for a table, although we did ask for the same waiter each night.
Muumuu Posted July 30, 2016 #16 Share Posted July 30, 2016 If I am correct don't most dining rooms have a main then a back entrance? If so, Diamonds and Platinums could enter there Would require a second podium and computer Doable? Wait! Aft dining rooms do not So YTD could be in forward dining room

Aft dining rooms do not So YTD could be in forward dining room Correct about the midship dining rooms. At least on Conquest Class ships. There are two entrances (front and back) as well as one on each level. So for the aft dining room, if they used that one, Priority seating could either check in on Deck 3 or Deck 4. splintz Posted July 30, 2016 #18 Share Posted July 30, 2016 This is good news. I just booked the vista 10 minutes ago and all they had left was anytime dining. My wife and I will turn platinum on this cruise. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app
CeleBrat Posted July 31, 2016 Author #19 Share Posted July 31, 2016 WOW! Lots of responses! Glad I wasn't the only one who wasn't quite sure about the Anytime Dining priority entrance. If that's the case, that we don't have to wait, then I guess we'll just keep it for our upcoming Vista cruise. We usually eat in the Early Seating, but sometimes that's a little too early after a long day in port. CeleBrat

Glad I like late dining. If there were 500 platinum guests doing YTD, I wonder how many would choose YTD? The dining room staff knows the answer, not me, but if there were 500 and they all had YTD, I'd expect there would be delays, but not chaos. Bases5 Posted July 31, 2016 #22 Share Posted July 31, 2016 We liked YTD when it first came out, It seems to have gotten more popular. Over the years we have noticed longer and longer wait times. (not always) The last couple of cruises we have gone back to fixed dining. If this became a D,P perk we would switch back,
BJs mom Posted July 31, 2016 #23 Share Posted July 31, 2016 Another question, if you're platinum but 2 or your family members are not and you want to sit together at dinner, do you all in together in the platinum entrance?
TVLady3 Posted July 31, 2016 #24 Share Posted July 31, 2016 I just booked a last minute cruise on the Sunshine and I'm on the waiting list for early dining. I also booked FTTF which was available, so does this mean I am guarenteed to be placed in early dining?
