Buying Air from Hal - Reservation Question

My question first: When buying air thru HAL, when do they give you the Record Locator (for American Airlines) or other reservation information so you can select seats and register for the flights?

 

Background: We are returning to HAL after 14 years having been on Celebrity and RCCL mostly since then. I know how X/RCCL does the air so I may be spoiled.

 

We booked the HAL cruise first, then added the hotel, air and insurance a few weeks later. After this second purchase we heard nothing from HAL or our TA so we contacted the TA and asked them. The TA contacted HAL and had them create a new confirmation form - which they did. BUT, the record locator or whatever numbers for flight registrations are not on the new form. The cruise is in April 2017.

 

Does this information come later somehow? I admit I am confused about the process. I hate to raise a stink with my TA if I am jumping the gun.

We also booked our air for April 2017 with HAL. We booked the cruise (Western Med) and then, after researching flights with the airlines, I went online to HAL's flight booking. I received our booking/locator number at that time and I could choose our seats.

 

Our outbound flight is with American Airlines and inbound is American Airlines, operated by British Airways. Outbound was free seat selection and inbound, we had to pay a fee.

 

Since our flights are Flex, we don't pay til final payment of cruise. I check periodically, using my locator number, to see if any changes to our flight....sometimes with HAL and sometimes with American Airlines. You should call your TA to get this number so that you can check you flights and select seats.

I got the information from my TA when I booked several months ago for a Sept. cruise. Since then I have gotten 2 updates from HAL about time changes. I have been able to select seats easily for both flights. We are flying Delta to Rome and Air France from Rome to Dulles in D.C. You have plenty of time to straighten this out but I would hop on it right away with my TA. Good Luck. ;)

I continually checked on the cost of the flights before making final cruise payment. The flights went down in price and an adjustment was made on my invoice when I called HAL.
