Letmelivehereplease Posted August 22, 2016 #1 Share Posted August 22, 2016 Wife's sis was supposed to deliver her kid last week. Didn't happen, and now we have to cancel our departure that was leaving today. Hope my insurance covers this.
lizardhowson Posted August 22, 2016 #2 Share Posted August 22, 2016 OK, would have thought you might have moved your cruise date long ago instead of taking a chance this late on insurance covering this reason for cancelling - unless money is no object. Letmelivehereplease Posted August 22, 2016 Author #3 Share Posted August 22, 2016 We were traveling specifically with two other couples on this date. One of which had never cruised before and wanted us to show them the ropes. Tough situation

pbsteve Posted August 22, 2016 #5 Share Posted August 22, 2016 Don't understand why you have to cancel. Agreed, why do you have to cancel, the baby will be there when you get back.. or is it yours?
RHilla619 Posted August 22, 2016 #6 Share Posted August 22, 2016 I have a feeling your insurance will not cover you on this, if you or your wife had a medical emergency (pregnancy, surgery, etc.) then it absolutely would be covered. But the reason you are missing the cruise is because someone who has nothing to do with the cruise is delivering, so the insurance company is going to view that as "your choice to miss" and probably won't cover it. logan25 Posted August 22, 2016 #7 Share Posted August 22, 2016 Don't understand why you have to cancel. You can make whatever decision works for your family. No one will judge you. If you are asking for sympathy for cancelling, however, I would not make the same choice. Unless your wife is delivering the baby or acting as delivery coach, I don't understand why she has to be available 24/7. Why not go and enjoy the vacation with the others and visit the new bundle of joy a few days after birth.

Hope my insurance covers this. Unless you have "Cancel for Any Reason" coverage, I don't think you'll get reimbursed. I'm sorry, you had to make that choice. You have to do what's best for your family situation.
riffatsea Posted August 22, 2016 #9 Share Posted August 22, 2016 Sorry you have to cancel your trip! Most of us don't understand why you are canceling but it is always sad when you don't get to go on a trip you have planned! I also doubt that insurance will cover this. bury me at sea Posted August 22, 2016 #10 Share Posted August 22, 2016 Sorry you felt compelled to cancel. I would have chosen to cruise, and to shower the baby with kisses when I returned home.
amydresh Posted August 22, 2016 #11 Share Posted August 22, 2016 My sister had a trip planned for the weekend I ended up having my first baby. She still went, leaving only a few hours before I gave birth. She was even supposed to be in the delivery room with me. I understood and didn't hold it against her. I'm sorry you felt you had to cancel because of this.
yogibear Posted August 22, 2016 #12 Share Posted August 22, 2016 Have fun buying things for the new little one in each port on your cruise. As has been said, baby will still be here on your return. And, maybe, won't have arrived yet either! Karen
Letmelivehereplease Posted August 22, 2016 Author #13 Share Posted August 22, 2016 Well, this was my wife's choice. I understand that she wants to be there. Not happy about it, and don't agree, but it is what it is. I completely agree that it's ridiculous I do carry cancel for any reason coverage, but it looks like there is a 48 hour prior to sailing clause. DirtyDawg Posted August 22, 2016 #14 Share Posted August 22, 2016 (edited) Looks like the OP has learnt the two absolute truths about marriage. 1. Happy Wife = Happy Life. and 2. I can imagine the struggle with her choice, but I would have never chosen to cancel a trip because of one of my sisters having a baby. I was in the hospital with all 5 of my nieces and nephews but I would have still gone on the trip even though it would have been hard to miss it, like others have said, the baby will be there when you get back. ryano Posted August 22, 2016 #16 Share Posted August 22, 2016 (edited) I would take the cruise and leave the wife at the hospital with her sis. At least that way yall dont TOTALLY lose out on the money. Edited August 22, 2016 by ryano
sheeniwoo Posted August 22, 2016 #17 Share Posted August 22, 2016 How is the couple handling it? Did you pay their portion or will be reimbursing the couple? To mimic what others said, I don't understand you need to cancel but ok. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
JLee1973 Posted August 22, 2016 #18 Share Posted August 22, 2016 I would go, if wife wanted to stay behind I would eat half the fare and enjoy myself with friends. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk
MommaBear55 Posted August 22, 2016 #19 Share Posted August 22, 2016 Babies come whenever they are ready! Too bad, and as others have said, unless you have cancel for any reason your insurance won't help. Enjoy your new niece or nephew
Towel Critter Posted August 22, 2016 #20 Share Posted August 22, 2016 That's a bummer. After having to cancel three of our four last cruises, I certainly feel your pain. Unfortunately, you are right. "Cancel for any reason" won't help you, since you canceled less than 2 days before the cruise. If you had flights, you should be able to get future credit for those at least. Also, you will be reimbursed for any gratuities paid for, as well as port taxes. Best wishes on your next cruise. Hopefully, it will work out for you. Podna's Posted August 22, 2016 #21 Share Posted August 22, 2016 Gotta go with the majority here. No way am I cancelling or I'm cruising alone. But hey, it's your decision and I do wish the sister good luck and a healthy baby. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
sherilyn70 Posted August 22, 2016 #22 Share Posted August 22, 2016 Does your wife understand hire much money you're losing because of this? I can't imagine voluntarily losing that much money just because a family member had a baby. Sent from my Samsung Galaxy 7 edge using Tapatalk. BellaSweet Posted August 22, 2016 #23 Share Posted August 22, 2016 Unless there is a baby literally evacuating my body, there is no way I'd cancel my cruise ;) The lil nugget will be there a week later and look just as squishy once you get home. Letmelivehereplease Posted August 22, 2016 Author #24 Share Posted August 22, 2016 (edited) Trust me! I'm with you guys here. Maybe I just needed to vent because I didn't want to feel like such an insensitive jerk for wanting to go without my wife :). Insurance did not cover, and of course carnival is not budging, so a $1300 lesson it is. I didn't cancel two days ago because contractions started, and I thought "MAYBE WE WILL MAKE IT" I gambled and lost.
