NYCruiser243 Posted August 29, 2016 #1 Share Posted August 29, 2016 Based on National Weather Service reports Hurricane Maureen will be affecting Hawaii over the next few days. Any word locally? It seems to be an active hurricane season now with another storm predicted to affect Hawaii.

kapoho2 Posted August 29, 2016 #3 Share Posted August 29, 2016 Just watched the local news. Here on the Big Island we may feel some effects from Tropical Storm Madeline on Wed/Thur. They said it is too early to tell much yet. These storms always tend to head directly toward the Big Island but then a very large percentage of them veer off and don't create any problems. More info as it gets later in the week. Then, there is Hurricane Lester right behind it, but it is much too early for any forecasts regarding that storm. The big story on the news is the World Conservation Convention this week. Obama will be attending and the folks on Oahu are much more concerned with the street closures, traffic nightmares, etc. that come along with his visits. If you will be staying on Oahu this week.....be prepared:eek:
NYCruiser243 Posted August 29, 2016 Author #4 Share Posted August 29, 2016 Thanks for the update. It looks like a 'wait and see' as usual for any hurricane effects. I don't envy the folks on Oahu dealing with traffic issues this week.

NYCruiser243 Posted August 30, 2016 Author #6 Share Posted August 30, 2016 (edited) Someone who is on the POA this week has reported that they have already cancelled the Kona port stop ( a tender port ) for Wednesday. That makes sense with Madeline predicted to affect the Big Island on Wednesday with high winds and heavy rain as it passes south and west. It is being followed by Lester predicted to move north of the islands from Sunday through Monday. We are sailng on the PoA October 8. I hope that there aren't any storms that week! Stay safe! kapoho2 Posted August 31, 2016 #8 Share Posted August 31, 2016 We are seeing the first waves of weather from the "outer bands" coming onshore now on the east side of the Big Island. Right now, Madeline seems to be tracking just south of us as a Cat. 1 hurricane, but we will still get strong tropical storm force winds here. The rain is coming down in sheets right now and the ocean is pounding. It is the possible 25 foot surf that has everyone's attention here in this oceanfront community. Stay tuned.
