Charles4515 Posted September 3, 2016 #26 Share Posted September 3, 2016 I wonder if anybody who got off the ship Wednesday or Thursday (for example to stay at a hotel/resort on the island for a night or 2) who was planning on returning to the ship by the regular departure time, was left behind due to the significantly (6hr) earlier departure..... Why would anyone get off the ship and stay at a resort for a night or two when they have a cabin on the ship? Unlikely, but if they did, too bad...... riclop Posted September 3, 2016 #28 Share Posted September 3, 2016 NCL Breakaway departed Bermuda this morning around 8:00am EDT (instead of its scheduled departure time of 2:00pm EDT) in order to beat Tropical Storm Hermine back to NY. Better safe then sorry.
Queenzena Posted September 3, 2016 #29 Share Posted September 3, 2016 Just checked the Celebrity board. Summit is scheduled to be back in Bayonne at 8:00pm Saturday night. They left 2 hours before the Breakaway. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Charles4515 Posted September 3, 2016 #30 Share Posted September 3, 2016 Happens all the time. People explore the island, meet family, friends at destinations..... Hotels are very expensive in Bermuda during the peak season. That's why I and many who like Bermuda tend to cruise to Bermuda instead of flying in and booking a hotel. If anyone booked a hotel it would be rare. I think anyone who was booking a hotel, or not staying on the ship would be wise to inform Guest Relations so they could contact them about any change in departure. Leaving early during hurricane season is not unusual. It happened on one of my Bermuda sailings on Zenith a number of years ago. SMerritt Posted September 3, 2016 #32 Share Posted September 3, 2016 Pack some warm clothes - Nova Scotia is a little chilly:D Soorry, couldn't resist as we are sailing on the POA in Hawaii tomorrow, so far, we have beem just being flooded with calls from NCL that the captain wants to leave at 4:00 PM instead of 7:00 PM. First & Last time we fly in the same day we sail! I doubt that I will sleep until we are on the plane, then the ship
parasailor Posted September 3, 2016 #33 Share Posted September 3, 2016 Since Breakaway could get to Bermuda in 1 sea day, rather than the scheduled 2, if its departure is delayed by a day or less, would it still get to Bermuda on Wednesday? ThePhoenix Posted September 3, 2016 #34 Share Posted September 3, 2016 On the Breakaway right now and it hasn't been too bad. Yes quite bumpy and its blustery outside, but everyone seems to be in good spirits and it doesn't feel at all like we are in danger. Just sad that our trip is coming to an end. Queenzena Posted September 3, 2016 #35 Share Posted September 3, 2016 Getting on the Breakaway tomorrow and ready for the adventure. Got our Sea Bands and 3 boxes of Bonine. We have a spa balcony room. Hoping to watch from the spa, as its 14 decks forward. Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Rare mking8288 Posted September 3, 2016 #37 Share Posted September 3, 2016 Watching the BA this morning on the re-established NCL fleet-wide webcam links, she is sailing in relatively calm water, maybe some light chops - doesn't look like it's more than 10' waves for this mega-ship, nothing to worry for most pax onboard & coming home early. Still out of AIS range but if she's following Summit closely rushing to come in - should be within tracking by this afternoon and sail into NY harbor by (late ??) evening ?? or stay close enough to keep the casino open for a few more hours for last minute gaming, LOL :p Hermine and the weather forecasts are playing cat-n-mouse game, dodging and changing every few hours. NYC, it seemed, going to miss most of the storm except for moderate wind & rain, and high surf & waves from tidal surges. NYC beaches are closed tomorrow & Monday for safety reasons as a precaution. Storm is predicted to stall southeast of NY for next 3 days, slowly moving away - "winds extend outward up to 185 miles (295 km) mainly to the south and east of the center (of the storm)" - from NHC's latest 8 AM update - http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/text/refresh/MIATCPAT4+shtml/031138.shtml? Now, I wonder if they will hurry with the turnaround & get everyone onboard & sail an hour or two earlier than 4 PM ... to outrun the storm & stay close to the coast, if possible (the "system" looking to be staying further offshore now) Happy Labor Day Weekend to all and safe voyage for all sailing - the Dawn is heading out toward Bermuda already & she is doing fine, nothing rough ... yet.

I don't know how much clearance is need to get under the Verrazano Bridge. Maybe the smokestack on the Breakway is motorized and they can lower and raise it mechanically. parasailor Posted September 3, 2016 #39 Share Posted September 3, 2016 Are the Breakaway passengers who lost 1/3 of their days in Bermuda receiving any voluntary compensation/incentive from NCL, such as a discount on a future cruise?

parasailor Posted September 3, 2016 #44 Share Posted September 3, 2016 Interesting. I can post on it and I am not part of that roll call. You must have done a better search--I tried the Roll Call Tool and no sailings prior to September appeared. At that point, I decided I wasn't interested enough to pursue it further. I hope your trip to the ship goes smoothly.

Rare BirdTravels Posted September 3, 2016 #47 Share Posted September 3, 2016 NCL: We are also closely monitoring the path of Tropical Storm Hermine. To avoid the storm's path, Norwegian Breakaway will depart early from New York, at 1:30 pm, on Sunday, September 4. In order to expedite embarkation we will begin check-in for embarking guests at 9:30 am. We ask that our guests plan to arrive early for check-in so that the ship is able to depart on this revised schedule to avoid the storm’s path. Please continue to monitor ncl.com for any further updates.
hawkeyetlse Posted September 3, 2016 #48 Share Posted September 3, 2016 You must have done a better search--I tried the Roll Call Tool and no sailings prior to September appeared. The Roll Call Tool is only useful for locating roll calls for cruises that haven't sailed yet. But you can also display all the Breakaway roll calls as an ordinary discussion forum (i.e. as a list of threads, just like the NCL board) here:Norwegian Breakaway Roll Calls The roll call for the current (August 28) sailing is here: Breakaway aug 28th 2016 to bermuda But no one has posted anything live from the cruise there. Rare mking8288 Posted September 3, 2016 #49 Share Posted September 3, 2016 (edited) Breakaway (on MarineTraffic) following X-Summit into NY at 18 nm, faster than usual speed. ETA about 8 pm for X and 10 pm for BA, based on AIS data. A beautiful sunset with clouds on the horizon. Getting words of heavy, bumper-to-bumper traffic going north from South Jersey on the Garden State Pkwy, Exit 20's and up - away from coastal area most prone to storm surge & flooding - several counties declared SOE as mentioned earlier. For those in NYC, Staten Island ferry services & Seastreak Ferry may have service cancellations until post-storm. Please have plan B if using it to get to MCT for the Breakaway in the morning - and, allow extra travel time. Using car service booked - good idea to call & reconfirm, careful with "surge" pricing.
