Biker19 Posted April 28, 2017 #3526 Share Posted April 28, 2017 But 200.000 GT would not be ideal or even possible for most of Alaska. It depends on the design. Some of the ports have multiple ships in port at the same time so another 1.5K passengers (over existing Explorer for example) should be doable. Sent from my iPhone using Forums mobile app the same was said once about the Caribbean (and the Med) [emoji6] Furthermore, another line is sending their 168,000 GT ship to Alaska in 2018. 200,000 really isn't that significant Sent from my iPhone using Forums

Quantum was 168,000 GT and I can't see that making a Quantum ultra would add 32,000 GT to her size. Icon class was announced at 200,000 GT but those two announced ships won't be due until 2022 and 2024.

NCL ships are short and close to Solstice dimensions but Quantum and even Freedom class are much longer. Maybe it fits, we will see. I prefer going with much smaller ships to small towns and unique places like fjords and glaciers. And a Radiance or Vision class with more than 2,000 people still is a very big ship for places with a few thausand inhabitants. Other suitable sized cruise ships for the Arctic or Antarctic region carry a few hundred passengers max. CRUISEBOY305 Posted April 29, 2017 #3533 Share Posted April 29, 2017 Regarding Mariner. Direct quote from Michael Bayley from yesterdays Q1 Conference Call. "With Mariner moving back into the States, that was really about timing. Mariner was coming out anyway when Quantum Plus came into the market, and we had an opportunity because we have some revitalization and drydock work that's quite extensive that we're planning for Mariner." Draft wise, Equinox is 8.3m and Mariner is 8.6m. Maybe Mariner will fit? Absolutely love Key West, and would love to see Mariner visit there regularly. CRUISEBOY305 Posted April 29, 2017 #3541 Share Posted April 29, 2017 Per a Next Cruise agent on board. Mariner Leaving Singapore April 9, 2018. Arriving Miami May 20 Sent from my iPhone using Forums
Biker19 Posted April 29, 2017 #3542 Share Posted April 29, 2017 ^ that would mean a dry dock after arrival and cruises sometime in early July. It would be interesting to see how much of the ship gets taken apart on the TA on the way to dry dock.

In that case she would probably dry dock in Asia where costs are much less. Has anyone seen an Itinerary for the 'Global Odyssey' yet? At this stage we are planning on doing the lot but would love to see where it's going before bookings open.
eel Posted April 29, 2017 #3545 Share Posted April 29, 2017 Wonder where the last segment will start from? I am guessing Barcelona. I'm guessing they will add a return from Shanghai (that's where she ends now on 3/28/18) to Singapore and then the return to Miami. Her sailing from Singapore to shanghai is now closed (for the obvious reason) So possibly dry from from March 19 to Apr 9??? Another possibility is a few more Singapore sailing and then dry dock in Freeport Sent from my iPhone using Forums
