Bored on the Star Princess

In another thread a person said they were a little bored on sea days on the Coral - what about the Star Princess on sea days, can someone name some things that kept you from being bored or activities on the ship - I'm really a hyper person and I don't want my family or I to be bored. I was on the Diamond to Alaska 5 yrs ago and I was bored on sea days, but I can't blame it all on sea days b/c I was facing a bad surgery as soon as I returned home.

I haven't been on the Star in a few years, but I did a 30 day on her, with many sea days. There was so much to do during the day that my friend and I only saw each other in passing, going from one activity to another. There was line dancing, hula dancing, lectures, silly games, competitions to join in with, ice carving, cocktail making, plus all the entertainment in the Piazza, MUTS, sports, fitness, bingo and of course all the eating you could want.

We managed to meet up at 5 every afternoon for a cocktail together before going to get ready for the MDR and more eating!

Where are you going? If you are going to Hawaii there will be an Hawaiian culture program going on during the daytime on every sea day. Things like uke lessons, hula dancing, Hawaiian entertainment, lei making. There will also be things like pop choir and the normal activities, like trivia, bingo, Zumba, etc.

On other itineraries, sea days have all the normal activities, plus on Mexico cruises you have to Lido Pool to lounge around. The Star also has an indoor pool for cooler weather.

We are never bored on sea days. For us they are the most enjoyable part of any cruise.

Same here! We love sea days! Plus we always find a way to stay busy. We find there aren't enough hours in the day on sea days. [emoji4]

Relax, do what you want.

Relaxing is an art form that takes years to master. My wife tells me she like me best when I'm relaxed. Somehow that could be taken wrong.

DW is a very hyper active person but never finds any cruise on Princess boring. She is on the go constantly from one activity to another. If you have problems on at sea days maybe you should take cruises with fewer of them. Was just on the Star to Alaska and found many things to do.

We exercise in the morning, shower, breakfast, figure out what we are doing for dinner (do we like the menu, do we want to do speciality dining), by now there might be a good movie on, or a food lecture (only ones we really go to), trivia, art auction, read a book (I usually read a few on vacation), in between lunch and then get ready for dinner. We do early dinner then hang out at a bar for an hour or 2, go to bed at 10-11. It's a full day [emoji4]

Bring a book or some magazines and read on your balcony or any outdoor area on the ship. You also have an internet cafe to catch up on email. There are small shows in the Piazza. Chit chat with people you are seated next to where ever you happen to be.

Can't help you as I've never been bored on a ship. I don't need to be entertained although people watching is one of my favorite activities. :) Talking to people and reading are my other two favorite things to do.

I am not one who does not care for sea days... simply because it is a day that I could be sightseeing on land. But are they boring...NO WAY!!!

Others on this thread have done a good job of explaining why.....

BTW if you r traveling with family a board or card game can be fun while sitting on the pool deck enjoying the ocean breeze or inside by a OV window.....

I don't like sea days because I "sea" to much food and eat it.....;)

As a fairly introverted person who kind of ran myself ragged on our last cruise trying to do EVERYTHING and experience EVERYTHING... there should be plenty of stuff to do!

We ended up spending a couple hours playing shuffleboard on the deck, can you play games with your family? Even cards?

They have all the sports areas.

There were SO MANY activities going on all the time. I was a victim of the Fear of Missing Out Syndrome and we ended up going to way too much stuff and not really relaxing and then I had a meltdown on Catalina Island. This time I plan on being much more careful about that and not going crazy doing all the activities I can fit into a day.

I would say, look at the patter in the morning. See what looks interesting. Fill in the rest of the time with hanging out with your family, meals, pool time, reading, or whatever else. Or just walk around the ship and look at everything! They always have some kind of contest or demonstration or show going on.

You can play shuffle board or corn hole or someother game. Or you can always find someone for some coitus. Might as well have fun at sea, but be safe. It is your time And be sure to have fun. Don't get caught up with what others have to say.

If I was on a Mediterranean cruise with a sea day that would be my say to have a late breakfast in the room and to relax. Ina a Caribbean cruise it would probably be my day to explore and see what was around and what I could win. Get the wine from the art auction and walk away. No reason to stay.

I don't think you can count on the activities on Princess to entertain you. We never go to the organized daytime activities and rarely go to the evening shows. I sometimes wish Princess offered more appealing choices. Many people opt out of the organized activities.

Having said that, we have never been bored on sea days and, in general, we rarely get bored. I always bring reading, but never get to it. I bring a notebook, in case I get ideas for projects I'm working on.

What do we do?

Walk laps on the promenad deck...this takes a while.

When we need a break from walking, we meditate while looking at the ocean.

Walking and meditation can take several hours a day.

We talk to each other and sometimes new people.

If you are worrying about surgery or other things, it can be hard to meditate, even though it helps with stress and, for me, being near the sea is the best place for it. The next best thing to take your mind off of things could be playing sudoku or a card game. Or reading something interesting. This could also be a nice time to spend quality time with family just talking or playing a board game, dominos, or cards.

Some of these suggestions may sound dull, but they are worth a try.

I love the sea days and rarely get bored on them. If the weather is nice, I put on a swimsuit and a cover-up and go to the IC for a latte and a chocolate croissant. Then I go hang out at the pool and either read, or watch a movie on MUTS.

If we are lucky enough to have a balcony room, then hubby will go get my coffee and I will hang out on the balcony for awhile.

My family likes to play trivia and sometimes we go play the silly games in the atrium like "Champagne Hoopla".

If the weather is bad, I'll go check my emails, spend some money in the shops, or maybe go to an afternoon movie in the Princess Theater.

At night it's cocktails, dinner, a show, and then maybe up to Skywalker's for a nightcap.

On longer cruises, I go to the salon and have a mani/pedi and get my hair done.

We're so busy at home, that I love nothing better than kicking back with a cocktail and just relaxing.

I watched a Youtube video of these people who were on the Crystal Symphony, San Diego to Auckland, 15 days with one port stop in Honolulu. They loved it (they were in the Crystal penthouse so that may have had something to do with it). I certainly wouldn't say no either!

I'm sorry! I had to laugh at that one - I'm going to Alaska for the previous post

We live for the sea days as we hardly get off the ship anymore on Caribbean Cruises. I'm an avid reader and usually read at least 3 books on a one week cruise. My wife does needlepoint and usually meets up with a group of other knitters. I always set a little time for some Blackjack in the casino and maybe an afternoon movie.
