5 Star Singles Cruise?

Olwyn

It seems to me that most 'arranged' singles cruises take place on Carnival Ships...and I would love to do something more upscale.

I did a Windjammer Singles cruise...and it was just too 'rustic' for me.

How about Celebrity or even Radisson?

Anyone done these as a single?

Thanks!

Olwyn

I am going on a singles cruise with a company that offers cruises on Carnival or Radisson Seven Seas. I can't post the name of the company on this board but if you do some research online, you should find them (they claim to be the #1 singles cruise company).

I am wondering how rustic the Windjammer cruise is. Last week a travel agent suggested it to me and I am not quite the rustic type. I was considering a Carnival "singles" cruise, however I'm not a party animal. Where do I fit in as an intelligent, fun, active, attractive woman over 40??

Trying to figure out that #1 specialist for singles cruises.

Hi,:) I am 47...I guess that is middle age?;)

If you check the cruises in my signature, all but one are on Celebrity.

They don't offer "Singles Cruises". I am single and find it very easy

to meet people on the ship.

I have cruised on my own every time except my most recent...I shared

a cabin with a girlfriend on SUMMIT.

I love Celebrity. I always feel like I have come home again whenever

I step back on one of their ships. It is an excellent feeling:)

I know Radisson...it is sort of like an All-Inclusive, (if you drink alot

that is good...I think your adult beverages are included in the price).

I have never sailed on them though. So I can't really give an educated

reply.

I am very happy with the product Celebrity offers me.:) I will be sailing

again in Feb for a friend's 50th birthday on Zenith.

We have a great group on Explorer of the Seas next Dec. 3.. Single rates on Radisson are pretty high IMHO, no, very high and RCI's rates is reasonable at least for this group. RCI is NOT Carnival but a good ship for single who like to meet others and have a good time in a little less "formal" and "early to bed" atmosphere than Celebrity.. I like Celeb, don't get me wrong, just a little too "early to bed" for me. and they don't have many alternative dining options for those evenings when you simply don't want to be on a schedule!

  • 2 weeks later...

Celebrity is expensive to cruise if you are traveling single since they only do 200% single supplements.

I love Crystal for this reason. With 125% single supplements on almost all their cruises (more for higher level rooms though), it's actually less expensive than Celebrity. Same with Radisson which are 135%. These are bargains for the single cruiser, imo.

Occasionally Seabourn offers 10% single supplements and Radisson does $99 single supplements. I believe that this will encourage more singles on the ship, but as long as you are somewhat social, it shouldn't be hard to meet people.

I've given up on organized singles cruises. First, there seems to be the idea that you are there to hook up. I am not. Plus I am so sick of Carnival. I've become disenchanted with the whole Party Til Ya Drop atmopshere and I'm only 28. I'm looking to find a luxury line to commit to and have already booked two luxury cruises as a solo.

With that said, there's a promo right now for Radisson Voyager on Dec 12th for $99 single supplement, plus a 2 category upgrade. I couldn't resist and booked. So there will be at least one single on there!

I also will not do "singles" cruises because it just seems to be a party till you drop atmosphere, and a lot of hooking up, if you know what I mean. I'm beyond that now that I'm no longer in the 20 to 30 age range. I've done 18 cruises as a single, mostly with Seabourn and Crystal and I love the cruise experience that way. With single supplements going from 10% to 35%, it can be much cheaper than going with a mass market line. I did a Radisson cruise as a single, and did not like it at all. The treatment I received as a single was terrible. Here's one example: I went into the buffet breakfast one morning at 9am, after just about everyone was off the ship on tours. I took my tray and wanted to sit at a table for 4 at the window when a waiter snatched the tray from my hands and said, "singles do not sit at tables for 4, only tables for 2". Now mind you, the restaurant was nearly empty and the hours of operation were until 10am for breakfast. The waiter took my tray and put it down at a table for two, next to the dish clearing station. You would never get that kind of treatment on Crystal or Seabourn. Also, I'm not a fan of open seating, as a single cruiser. It's just darned uncomfortable to walk into the dining room at night, all alone, and see if anyone would allow you to join them. At least on Seabourn, you received an invitation to dinner each evening from a ship's officer or a member of the hotel staff. You never had to worry about dining alone. And on Crystal, it's assigned dining so you make friends on the very first night.

Good points, Kitty. There's traveling solo, and then there's feeling all alone. I usuall have no problem meeting people on board but I've already had thoughts about it being awkward at dinner on Radisson. Especially since everyone raves about the specialty dining rooms. I really don't know about going to them alone!

I really hope my Radisson experience is different from yours. As you probably know from the Crystal board, I'm excitted about trying that line. I'm testing the lux lines out. Next will hopefully be Seabourn or Silversea, but if I fall in love with Radisson or Crystal, I might not make it there.

Had a question about your Dec 12th RSSC cruise - how did you find out about the $99 SS? I looked on their site and their is a 2-for-1 special, but thats all I saw. I just started looking for these single specials... found one on Seabourn for Mar 26th... but even at 110%, 7 nights is $3300. I'm 25, and like you, tired of the party hard main line travelers.

it was on their website and I've seen the promo still advertised in other places. I booked directly through Radisson. You might want to call them. Maybe they still have the promo available. It was offered with a 2-cat upgrade too!

I would love to hear about your cruise when you get back, hopefully you will do a review! I was thinking of trying this line or Seabourn..Just for something different.

another question for you. Did you pay the 1648 rate plus the $99?

or was it the full rate + $99?

(plus taxes and port I assume)

I may be in with you - I saw a site offering the deal - have to call my TA friday. I would be game if it was about $2000 for the 5 days!

Your not too far away from me, your in PA... I have snow right now and could sure use some warm air!

It was 1915.50 with cruise fare, single supplement, taxes, silly fees and fuel surcharge. The flights are ridiculously cheap right now, so you'll be close to $2000. Still a total bargain, imo. The cabin is incredible.

I will write a full review when I get back.
