JazzMimi Posted September 20, 2016 #1 Share Posted September 20, 2016 I am new at this site and have never been on Regal Princess. Could someone please tell me if they have been able to use their AT&T cell phone at sea. I'm getting conflicted reports from my carrier and Princess. It is necessary at this time for me to be able to converse daily with my 93 year old father. Am hoping to know before we leave on Saturday. Thank you thank you!! helen haywood Posted September 20, 2016 #3 Share Posted September 20, 2016 It will be very expensive. Call AT&T before you leave so you know what the charges will be.

AT&T charges $2.49 per minute for voice calls at sea. Make sure you turn off your data or you will get a huge bill.

JazzMimi Posted September 20, 2016 Author #7 Share Posted September 20, 2016 Thank you! Princess insinuated there would be NO service at all for me but even expensive service in my case for emergencies is a good thing at this point!!!

Well, I would call AT&T, because the AT&T link provided in port #5 above does not list Princess ships. Edited September 20, 2016 by clarea

JazzMimi Posted September 20, 2016 Author #15 Share Posted September 20, 2016 Thank you. Will look into what I can by Saturday. I have talked to 8 AT&T agents and I still haven't a clue if I'll have service. Am hoping for a pleasant surprise. Not much else I can do!! Rare cruisegal40 Posted September 20, 2016 #16 Share Posted September 20, 2016 It you are hitting the eastern port. San Juan and St. T will get service. I believe you may be able to add a temporary plan to your current plan. I know my son did this when he interned in Europe. Worth looking into
JazzMimi Posted September 21, 2016 Author #17 Share Posted September 21, 2016 Thank you. New England bound but also time at sea. The time at sea is when I need the cell. Appreciate your time!
Rare cruisegal40 Posted September 21, 2016 #18 Share Posted September 21, 2016 You might be close enough to pick up satellite. Good luck. I fully understand the need.

nolatravelgirl Posted September 23, 2016 #20 Share Posted September 23, 2016 Based on your past posts I see you are on the Regal Princess Canada & New England itinerary. You only have one sea day. It will be infinitely cheaper to make your AT&T calls while in port from your cell phone. I am assuming you are US based so depending on your plan, the calls while in Canada will be slightly more expensive but certainly cheaper than making calls from the ship satellite connection. For those curious here are the ports and times the OP is on. These are mostly US ports with long port days so she should be able to avoid most satellite charges by making calls during strategic times
