Insurance question

My experience and reading about this subject is if you are allowed to cancel and get a credit for a future sailing, this will only be offered to the pregnant party and their spouse (or SO). It isn't offered to other family members who are traveling with them.

I lost $700 this year for this reason, and this isn't covered by any travel insurance policy. Pregnancy is not an illness. She doesn't have Zika. Buying insurance won't help you.

Complications from pregnancy are covered though even with the most basic of policies

I just re read my policy and right there it says pregnancy is not covered...except...for complications from pregnancy

Edema

Hypertension

Protein in urine

High sugar levels

The list goes on and on and if a dr advises not to travel the real question is

1. Because of the fear of Zika

2. Because of a complication

Big big difference. However it's not our place to say swollen ankles are not a complication of pregnancy.....because they most certainly can be a precursor to pre eclampsia and I'm posting this only because I have been on these boards long enough to know that someone will now post that

Fluid in the legs of a pregnant woman is common

While it may be common it may also be dangerous and while it may or may not require some bed rest it more than likely will trigger a doctors note that the insurance company will accept

My daughter had an NCL cruise booked.

She found out she was pregnant.

Was concerned about Zika.

NCL offered nothing.

They cancelled and lost everything.

They were paid in full.

Travel insurance offered nothing.

Credit Card offered nothing

pregnancy has not been considered an illness or sickness by the travel insurers for ages. Since the advent of widely-available birth control they consider pregnancy a condition you voluntarily entered into and you must accept the consequences of your decision. Their attitude is "planning on going on a cruise? Don't get pregnant because we're not going to help you"

Ok so reading comprehension is minimal I see....

Please se posts #25 and #26 above

Complications from pregnancy are covered

The key work is....complications

Please re read my previous posts and you will see I clearly posted that fact

Regardless....my policy covers.... Complications from pregnancy

Fwiw....a complication is a medical issue...

If you dont think it is then please post what you think it is

Her fear of Zika is not a complication of pregnancy so of course there was no reimbursement

Birth control? Really. Um no...

If birth control fails....and the pregnant woman has complications....and has travel insurance....and has a doctor saying these complications are such that she cannot be cleared to travel....her insurance claim is valid and she will be reimbursed

Once again...

Fear of Zika

And

Complications from pregnancy (regardless of that pregnancy being planned or not)

Are 2 entirely different things

One is not covered

One is covered

Just for fun I'll leave it up to the posters to figure out which is which

Correct, but she wouldn't be covered because she's pregnant. She'd be covered because of an unforeseeable medical condition that just happens to be the result of a pregnancy. The coverage is for that medical condition, not the pregnancy itself.
