Hi everyone!

We booked a trip with Anthem October 15. What is the best transportation to and from cruise terminal ? We fly from Europe one night before and stay at the Hilton Newark Penn Station. Our arrival appointment will be 10:30. Should we take a taxi from hotel to port? What fare should we expect?

After the cruise we stay one night at the The Manhattan Hotel at Times Square. What is the best way to go there? Found a limo service (Dial7.com) for $50. What time should we arrange pick up ( 9 a.m. or later). Any other suggestions?

Thank you very much for your help

You should take a taxi from the Newark Penn Station Hilton to Cape Liberty. Expect to pay $55-65 including tolls and tip.

$50 to go to Times Square with Dial7 seems too cheap. Does it include the tolls which could run $15-17. Expected tip would be 18-20% on the base rate, so $9-10.

Is there a low cost public transport option?

Please provide more details. Exact date? Time of day? How many people? Where are you leaving from and where are you going? Can you manage your luggage on accessible public transit?

I'm on the same cruise at the same hotel.

So it would be better to take a taxi to Cape Liberty over a private service?

It's really a personal choice. With a private service there should be no surprises because the base rate and expected tolls are known ahead of time and you just add your tip. The taxi prices are an expected range. From Downtown Newark to Caoe Liberty is not a metered fare, but it's a "local" trip within NJ.

What we encourage folks NOT to do is to take a taxi between NJ and NY. That's where the car services are always recommended. If a car service dispatches a car to go from NY to NJ, then they have the possibility of fulfilling a NJ to NY booking and making money both ways. Taxis can't do that - NY cabs can't pick up folks in NY and NJ cabs can't pick up fares in NY, so they have to deadhead back to their licensed territory.
